DGT make our favourite chess clocks
Complex time controls could be a pig to programme but simple ones are a breeze. I was a little taken aback by the price in the UK; it seemed super steep compared to the US model, when purchased in the US.A cool feature to consider would be a USB connection to a phone with an app, so you have a GUI to create complex time controls. Just a thought…

Essential - but pricey
I bought this for my grandson who's an 8 year old competent beginner. He took to it naturally and it's robust enough for his age group.A chess clock/timer isn't just for tournaments or club matches. I believe that every chess player should try playing with a clock, even in 'family' games. It focuses the mind and encourages rapid positional assessment. And lightning/blitz games are great fun! This model of clock has been a standard for years now and has the FIDE seal of approval. What a pity then that it's sold at such an exorbitant price. It's plastic with low cost electronics - yes, it will last for years but honestly, the price is ridiculous. And I've even seen the same model on sale at twice the price! Perhaps it's the the FIDE branding - who knows?EDIT: Typo

Overpriced and underwhelming
It's functional, austere, clunky and dull. There are very few user-programmable slots. You could probably get one with better chess functionality for less, providing you can let go of the FIDE branding.
