Top-Tier Home Safety with Smart Features—but Pricey
Installed this 5-pack of X‑Sense smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with the base station in our home, and the setup couldn’t have been smoother. Each unit paired quickly, the app is intuitive, and when one alarm goes off, they all sound together—plus you get a clear smartphone alert. Knowing exactly which unit triggered the alarm (via room naming in the app) is a game-changer. The detectors are battery-powered (lasting up to 10 years) and include photoelectric sensing that reacts fast to both smoke and CO . I appreciate that you can test and silence alarms remotely—no more climbing ladders just to hush a false alarm. Why it's not a full 5 stars: It’s a bit pricey, and there’s occasional nagging in the app about subscribing to their Protect+ monitoring service. But in terms of reliable detection, smart integration, and peace of mind—it’s definitely worth it.

Easy Setup, Certified for Safety, and Excellent Peace of Mind
We recently replaced our old 10-year-old combination alarms, and after a lot of research, we chose the X-Sense Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Combo. We’ve only had them for a short time, but so far I’m very impressed with the installation, functionality, and overall peace of mind they provide. Why I Chose TheseI had a few non-negotiables when choosing new alarms:I needed them to be battery powered since I didn’t want to run wiring through the house.I wanted combination smoke and CO detection, even though my local fire department advised against it. Their concern was mainly due to CO detectors having a shorter lifespan (5–7 years) than smoke detectors (10 years). Using separate detectors could save money over time since you’d only need a few CO units per floor versus one combo unit per bedroom and hallway. That’s a valid point, but for my setup, the combo option made sense.Interconnection across all alarms was essential. We have a basement, main floor, and second floor, so if there’s a fire or carbon monoxide event on the far end of the house, I want every alarm in the home to go off at once. Most importantly, I wanted alarms that were properly certified. After looking into several cheaper brands, I found many were not UL certified, which was a dealbreaker. The X-Sense alarms are both ETL listed and UL certified, and I confirmed this on the official Intertek website, not just the X-Sense product page.InstallationInstallation was very easy. Each unit came with a mounting plate, three screws, and three wall anchors. You’ll need a drill, a 6mm bit, a pencil, a hammer, and a Phillips screwdriver. A ladder and safety goggles also help. I used the included template to mark the ceiling, drilled holes, inserted the anchors, screwed in the plate, and twisted the alarm into place. I installed 10 alarms in about an hour.Setup and AppBefore installing the alarms, I synced each one to the base station using the X-Sense app. The process was quick and intuitive. I added the base station to the app, named each alarm by location, and completed setup in about 10 minutes. The app walked me through each step, and I tested each unit using the app's built-in test feature. Every alarm sounded properly and was very loud.So Far, So GoodWe've had these alarms for just over a week, so there haven't been any real emergencies, but I feel confident they will do their job. They’re loud, responsive, easy to install, and come from a brand that offers proper third-party certification. If you’re looking for battery-powered, interconnected alarms with both smoke and CO detection, this is a solid, trustworthy choice.

Excellent Combo Smoke Detector System
One of my smoke alarms recently failed, which caused it to go off in the middle of the night. The problem is that my system is all wired together so when one alarm triggers, they all do. This is great in terms of safety, but it's not easy to determine which of the devices has failed when they are all run together. In most cases these smoke alarms all get installed at the same time, so generally speaking when one goes, it means the others aren't too far behind. To avoid the annoyance of troubleshooting, and assuming that the rest of the system may start to fail, I bought the X-sense package.Setup was extremely easy. Once I plugged in the base station and connected it to my Wi-Fi network it literally took a few minutes to get the other alarms configured and assigned to different rooms. I did have to replace the ceiling plates to accommodate but I was able to use the included anchors and hardware to get the job done. I was also able to use one screw from the previous installation to get the ceiling plate lined up. It made the installation of the ceiling plate easier. Once that was done, it was just a matter of naming the different devices, activating them and putting them up.I love the fact that you can monitor each alarm separately from the app. You get an individual tab for each device in the app that shows device status, and you can test them individually from there. The system is also expandable. Overall, I'm very happy with the price, features and functionality. Highly recommended.

No more chasing beeps all over the house!
I bought this set to replace standard dumb smoke alarms that were deployed in every bedroom of our house. We were away on a week-long vacation with a friend housesitting for us when one of the old alarms started to run out of battery juice. After spending a significant amount of time isolating the offending alarm, she was finally able to subdue the beeps by changing the 9-volt battery that seem to be the standard for these things.Having gone through this exercise before, I immediately started searching for a better solution. This set was perfect. Not only did it provide enough alarms for all our bedrooms and the family room, but it also included CO monitoring. Having an app to check on status was also great - easy to tell where the issue is. It was easy to install with the bracket-based installation process. Now we won't have to subject our house-sitters to the stress of dealing with an alarm issue. Also, these are all wirelessly tethered - if one alarm goes off, all of them will sound so that everyone in the house can respond to the emergency without waiting. The only complaint is that these have a finite 10-year life. The set we got was manufactured last year, so the expiration date on the units indicate that I will only get 9 years of value out of it. Not a big deal, but enough to warrant the loss of a star. Overall, though, our family is well-protected with these units.
