How often sbould i change these?

The instruction booklet says every 6 months but I only change it when the sponge can no longer be cleaned or does not spring back when squeezed. I would say maybe 12-18 months. Don't do all at once either - I do half one clean and the rest the following clean.

so i have bought the 306 with no media is this all the media i need for it to work effectively? as ive never used and external filter before. tia

This will fill the foam holder and the fist canister of 3. There are 2 canisters that will need ceramic beads and charcoal etc....or whatever media you choose to use.
