The Supracolor is Caran d' Ache's line of watercolor pencils, lightfastness 2007 not representative of all colors but showed a number of reds, blues and some greens as 5.4 or less. . The range is similar to the Caran d' Ache Pablo oil based pencil, lightfastness in good to excellent range with approx. 1/3 at 5.4 or less in review of all colors. The Supra pencil is softer when used as a dry application, and wears down rapidly.I am tempted to state that there is little to no difference in color range as I have been able to match color for color in both lines.The Pablo pencil is harder and will give sharper edges and detail than the Supracolor. They may be used in conjunction or together on a project. The Supra may be laid down and water used to spread or shade colors, then the Pablo may be used over the dry work for accentuation of detail. If you are not intending to use the watercolor feature of the Supra, then use the Pablos. They will last longer, not break as easily, nor be used up as fast in dry work, ie. pencil on paper with no need for water application. Pablo's may be blended with various blending pencils or mineral oil or solvents depending on how you want the texture of the work to appear. The Caran d' Ache Luminance line was not mentioned. It is excellent. Lays down smoothly, layers well with other colors to achieve transparency illumination. They are expensive, and have about half the range of colors that the Pablo and Supracolor have. Their lightfastness is excellent. The Colored Pencil Society of Amer. is a good reference. The AW Faber-Castell Polychromos are excellent oil based pencils, with a wide range of color. They also have a watercolor line, which I know nothing about.If range is the sole goal, probably Prismacolor Premier wax based pencils have the widest range of colors, and lightfastness for the most part excellent and good with approx 47 colors 5.4 or less.Hope this helps/. Ohhhh and another FYI for all of you.... here is a direct quote from colored pencil magazine on Caran D'ache and that the Pablos and Luminance ( which another comment on here is quoted as saying they aren't....take that comment off here Amazon, its not correct ) Caran D'ache does not make any oil based pencils.... yes you heard me, Caran D'ache only makes wax based pencils ( even tho all colored pencils contain both wax and oil ) Here is the direct quote from colored pencil magazine.. " I contacted a rep for Caran D' Ache (Stefan Lohrer) who writes, "Pablo and Luminance pencils are both permanent, water resistant pencils. In addition, both are wax based pencils." Stefan states that the difference is in lead hardness. He also states that Caran D'ache does not manufacture oil based pencil sets to date. "

What is the difference between the luminance and the pablo pencils?

Hi, I got both Pablos and Luminance. Both are very creamy and vibrant colors but the luminance are more bold with a low pressure and are more bendable. The difference between the boxes of the luminance 38 and Pablos 40 is in the color range, they are very different, Pablos don't have any a skin color but have a pretty variety of blues.
