Is the lid supposed to fit perfectly on top of the popper before cooking popcorn?

It’s not supposed to fit. The lid is only meant to keep the popcorn in the popper. It rises as the popcorn pops.

how many cups does this popper make

I don't know exactly how many cups but I'd say about 7 or 8. I use 1/4 cup popcorn and si.w butter and salt and microwave it. Sometimes I puthink a little more popcorn etc. It turns out great. I love the popcorn popper and how the popcorn turns. You can taste the butter and salt if you add enough.

Yes. It comes in a box with instructions on the box. Not much to remember. I store mine in its box so it's easy to spot in my cupboard. Very giftable!

How much popcorn do i use

I use 1/3 cup and it fills the bowl nicely. Use good popcorn. I have used the store brand, Jolly Time and Orville Reddinbacker. The Jolly Time works fine and is $1 or so less than Orville's. The store brand didn't pop as fluffy.
