what is the function of the metal tab on the top ?

Went out and looked at my freezer. The racks are such that this could hang on them. The tab on top is bent enough to be stable there.

There is a tiny screw that can be turned with a jewelers screwdriver for calibration. It’s in the middle hole in of back.

Can you wash this if it’s not working.

Wash the thermometer? I would guess that would be fine. But I don't think washing it would make it start to work.
