Compare to Koshi and Zephyr Chimes - Which one should you get?
I should start by saying I own a full set of Koshi chimes, and have also tried the Zephyr Chimes. I have a full range of professional quality sound healing instruments, and have formal training as a musician. So with that, I present my thoughts on what I am going to call a "respectable Koshi knockoff."For all intents and purposes, this product is very similar to the Koshi chimes in size, construction, and build quality. They are exactly the same size, and both have 8 notes. The cylinder is made out of wood laminate, just like Koshi chimes, and with a similar thickness. I purchased the "Sacral" chakra chime. The first thing I notice is that the Chakra chime has deeper tones and sounds more robust. I'm not sure if all of them are like that, but the Sacral chime certainly is. By comparison, all four of my Koshi chimes sound lighter, more "fairy-like." My guess is that the type of wood is slightly different. While this is a matter of personal preference, I do like the lighter sound of the Koshi chimes but Chakra is still quite beautiful. Also, I feel that the Koshi chimes are slightly more in-tune and in harmony, but this would probably not be noticeable to a non-professional.By comparison to Zephyr, I must say that Zephyr chimes feel like a toy compared to either Koshi or Chakra chimes. Zephyr lacks the richness of sound and reverberation that comes from the nice wood cylinder of the Koshi or Chakra chimes. This is actually a nice quality instrument, and there is nothing to complain about with the sound quality or build quality.Of course, the one complaint that could be made is that this company might be completely copying Koshi, so if you buy these you might be supporting a company that copied the Koshi design. But on the other hand, Koshi should have stepped up their game a long time ago to offer their product here in USA at fair prices instead of charging 60 Euro plus shipping and taking 6 weeks to ship them out.One interesting point . . . As you can see in the photos, there is a metal dangle and a long white one that looks like a bookmark. You actually receive BOTH in the box. The metal dangle is quite beautiful. The thing that looks like a bookmark is pointless, haha, so yeah just use it as a bookmark. I can't imagine why anyone would use that plastic thing instead of the nice metal dangle.Bottom line - Great instrument for the money! I will say they are definitely better than Zephyr, and about 90-95% as good as Koshi.
