Does the bed of it actually move and work

yes the bed goes up and down the wheels go fwd and backwards and front wheels can turn right and left great imaginary play vehicle and all functions are like the real trucks

How do you move the front? Do you have to hold the front loader and move it up and down?

It does move, not easily, but it moves. You just push it to move up and down. There is no switch or anything. I liked this toy because it was sturdy and the detail was very nice. It may not be of interest to a very young child, but our 4 year old love it. He likes metal replicas, not plastic, and the front loader was just right for him.
