Works as Promised
This thing is outstanding! Deer ate the tops of 4 new trees I planted last year and killed them, but the sprinkler has kept them away from their replacements. Checking batteries and they are still full charge after several weeks work. Highly recommended if not to surprise the joggers.

Good Detection / Poor Water Throw
The problem I needed to address was a raccoon tearing up patches of my sod. After studying the various reviews of motion-sensor-controlled sprinklers, I could not decide whether to purchase the Hoont Cobra or the Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer. Since I figured I needed at least two to cover the raccoon-ruined portions of my lawn, I purchased one of each. After 30+ days of use, I can say that both of these units have advantages and disadvantages relative to each other. Therefore, I am combining my review of both of them in the hope that such a comparison will be more helpful than two individual reviews.Motion Sensing: The Hoont Cobra has a very significant advantage. It can detect a six foot human much further away than the Orbit 62100, at least a hundred feet. However, it also detects the motion of tree leaves 6 feet above the ground, 15 feet from the unit. It doesn’t do nearly as well detecting small animals, such as raccoons, at much closer distances. I witnessed a squirrel moving around about 10 feet from the Hoont Cobra, and it did not detect it. The Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer does better at detecting small animals, primarily because the sensor has a vertical adjustment, while the Hoont Cobra does not. However, the distance limit at which the Orbit 62100 can sense movement seems to be about 30 feet. The horizontal angular range of both sensors appears to be about 30 degrees. I was hoping for at least 45, or even 60 degrees.Water Range: While the Hoont Cobra can detect movement as far away as 100 feet, it throws the water so high into the air that it only reaches about 30 feet. Adjusting the water-throw distance with the unit’s water deflector only resulted in decreasing the range. The water nozzle appears to me to be oriented too high. I did lower the Hoont Cobra’s sensor and water nozzle by angling the unit while pressing it into the ground. This did not appear to affect the motion sensing or the water-throw range significantly. The Orbit 62100 threw the water twice as far as the Hoont Cobra, even though it was plumbed to be down-stream from the Hoont (on the same water line).I would say that the biggest deterrent value that both of these units provide for scaring away small animals is their noise surprise factor. In my opinion, both of these units will probably scare away an unsuspecting animal within 50 to 75 feet of them (if it is detected of course), just due to the surprise of the noise they make when they click on / run / click off. Since, The Hoont Cobra senses a greater distance, and because it is considerably cheaper to purchase, I have given it one more star.

Don't waste your time
This is one of the worst pieces of product garbage I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Seemed like such a good idea too, and with decent reviews I was very hopeful. Well, actually if you do the math on the reviews, it seems as though roughly 1 in 10 units don't perform and I guess this was my unlucky day. I hate spending time on a lengthy review but to save some of my fellow Amozonians from some headaches and frustration I feel it's my duty to go into some detail. And maybe even the manufacturer will take note although I doubt it. I can tell from their weak website and "instruction slip" that consumer communication is not their forte. So here goes: Easy to assemble, yes. But from there it goes downhill fast. Instead of providing easy to see visual instructions, there's a pithy slip of paper with not well-written instructions, at least one of which makes absolutely no sense: "The jet spray repeller's coverage area is arc shaped. Set the width of this arc by sliding the two prong clips to the left or right." Seems clear except there are not two prong clips that you can adjust into any kind of variable arc, only narrow and almost 360º. But that's minor stuff, on to the real failure: IT DOESN'T WORK! How does it not work? Let me count the ways. It behaves randomly every time you make make a slight adjustment like the distance or go into the battery compartment. Starting with brand new batteries, the unit wouldn't come on at all even after adjusting the on/off distance dial. Then finally it came on and wouldn't turn off! So I turned the dial to off and then it wouldn't come on again at all. Maybe something wrong with the batteries? So I swap fresh batteries and try again. Okay now it's working, great. But then I go to adjust the distance and it stops working again! I'll give it a rest, maybe it needs time to adjust (?). An hour or so later it's working again but now it's going off every 30 seconds while there's complete stillness in the area! And it won't stop! For the next several hours, repeat and rinse (which is what will happen to you as you adjust and try to get it to work). Nuff said? I hope so. Avoid it. Unless you love frustration.

No more unwelcome guests in our yard
We have been having a growing issue with either stray cats or irresponsible owners not fixing their pets (at least two of the cats that were an issue were not) coming into our yard and marking everything, including our slider we leave open at night when the weather is nicer, and picking fights with our cats, including through our door. I didn't want to go with a trap except as a last resort, and the city animal control has decided to do nothing about the exploding stray cat population in our city, leaving limited options for dealing with a trap humanely, so needed to start with deterrence.Well, it seems after getting a couple of nasty surprises from this sprinkler, the marking and fighting issues have more or less disappeared and our unwelcome visitors have seemed to have got the message our yard isn't a place for them to be. It will easily trigger at 20-30 feet even on setting 4, setting 0 in spite of saying in the instructions is "off" is not, so true off needs to be shutting the water off to it or you'll get sprayed walking close enough to it still. Our yard is again quiet and we can leave our slider open again without having to worry about peeing or fighting through it, worth the price of admission.
