Do you actually have to assemble this awning, and if so is it as complex as it seems?

It depends on what you consider assemble..... The awning is collapsed inside the cover for transport. When you want to use it you must unzip the cover, unroll the awning and unfold the legs. There are bungee straps and tiedowns to secure the entire setup. You’ll have to do the reverse to collapse the awning and return it to the storage bag. It may take you about 20 minutes or so the first time until you get hang of it and then you will get faster. Experienced owners can set up and put it away in as little as 5 minutes.

Does it need to be used fully extended or can you open it up partially for a shorter awning?

It must be fully extended to use. The awning material wraps around the end bar that holds the corner poles.

Does rhino rack sell sunseeker awning room with mosquito netting?
