How good at sewing should you be to make this? Intermediate? Expert?

Intermediate to be sure. A good knowledge of seam finishing is a must. Lots of information on YouTube. Make sure you use GOOD fabric and the correct thread and needle in your machine. Best suggestion is to make it as a muslin first to ensure fit. Basting first is always a good idea.

How many yards of material are needed to make this item

I believe it was 5 1/4 yards for 60-inch-wide fabric (another person has the pattern right now). We made the largest size. We purchased 5 1/2 yds since we were doing cover buttons (there are 24 buttons down the front on view A) and wanted to make sure we had more than enough. We probably didn't actually need to get the extra as the scraps would have been sufficient for the buttons.

Finished cassock looks great!

Our pastor needed a black cassock for Good Friday, so a couple of us from altar guild offered to make one for him. I only did the buttonholes/buttons (24 of them!) and used cover buttons covered with same fabric as the body of garment. Looks really good. Other seamstress said it went together easily. We didn't use the pockets given, but just left slits in the sides for easy access to trouser pockets.

This was an incredibly easy pattern

I actually used this pattern for two reasons - one was for normal use and the other as a modified habit. The pattern was incredibly easy to use and modify.I've backed the pattern with freezer paper so I hope it will last me for a few years.

Robe Pattern

Typical of Butterick patterns, it gives you two good patterns for simple robes. Easy to use. Worth the money, if you are going to make just one, or many of these garments.

Exactly what I wanted!

I haven't put it together yet, but it's exactly what I wanted. I bought it for my Halloween costume, but after taking a close look at the pattern, I'm going to alter it slightly to make a luxurious bathrobe to lounge around the house :-DBTW: This is NOT a beginner's project.
