An appealing, well-engineered product.
This is a superb product. An excellent portable radio with an appealing design for all of us who want to keep their ears free of foreign objects. It is well engineered with plenty of bands, good range, and a surprisingly (for its size) powerful speaker. It is thin and light. I take it with me for walks, and I carry it with me in the house as I move from room to room. Needles to say, I like listening to radio during the day. I also enjoy the alarm clock feature when needed. The outer surface offers lots of friction in your hand, so it won't slip out easily. I highly recommend it.

Came in Handy Already, But Now Having Issues
I ordered this to use on camping trips, but it came in handy at home when the power went out during a snow storm. The size is great, it's light, and it picks-up the stations just fine. I have not tried shortwave yet, but AM/FM work just fine. I'm satisfied. the radio is easy to find, too, in the red color.Revised 6/23/15: Having trouble with this radio now. AM reception is awful and I cannot get anything, day or night on the short-wave bands. FM is fine. However, this portable has a problem with the power button. It's easy to wind up with the radio turned on if you pack it in a backpack, as I do. The button is raised and I found the radio dead in my backpack. I can only assume that it turned itself on at some point and wore the battery down. Also, the lock switch broke off. I'm not that rough with stuff.

Design Drawback Defeats Decency
Reception on AM is good, but SW bands aren't great and FM is poor. Disappointed in Grundig, one of the great radio makers, for one serious design flaw: The lock doesn't control the tuning, the most important thing to lock. So if you want to put it in your pocket and listen on headphones, good luck getting it in without the channel shifting. In fact, the tuning is so sensitive, I've thrown it off channel by abrupt movement, without touching the dial, while jogging (and having to hold it in my hand rather than in my pocket because of problem one). And this is not inexpensive for a portable transistor radio, by the way. I'd rather have the cheapie generic I bought at a camping goods store back; I had it for decades before I dropped it once too often.

It coulda been a contender......
A strange radio. Very compact and stylish. AM, FM and full SW. But....Am is only good locally. Distant stations that can be clearly heard on 30 year old portables are silent. FM on the other hand works well, with stereo signals strong in the evening. The SW is almost useless; other stations bleed in all over the bands.I only paid $16, but it does not work as well as a Sony made in 1970. If they had only spent another $10 to make a strong AM, and replace the SW with weather band, this would be a great radio. But it isn't...UPDATE:The AM seems to have improved, I am now hearing the stations that were missing earlier. Sunspots? Aliens? Anyway it's now working on par with the old Sony, with better clarity and tone. FM stereo through earbuds. For $16, it's worth it..

SCRAMBLED PIECE OF PLASTIC WASTE OF MONEY
This is a piece of junk. How dare it wear the Grundig name! What happened. I had a Grundig for ten years--took it outside many mornings to enjoy my coffee. And to the beach. Went through three hurricanes with it. It finally wouldn't turn on, the button got permanently depressed or something in a drawer. Anyway, okay I get this thing based on the name and my past experience. Bummer. This is junk. It would stop playing after twenty minutes. I hadn't set an alarm or timer so after the third time I put in new batteries. Same thing. Then it would flash flash flash on the station and finally that was all it would do. No sound, no static, no nothing. I bought another brand, analog tuning, hope I have better luck. What a shame, Grundig. Makes me wish for my high school transistor again.

fabulous....worth much more than asking price.
I take my German Shepherd on long walks and really appreciate a small( this one is practically tiny) good quality radio that gets good reception. I lost a very pricy CCrane radio and bought this one to replace it. Boy, was I surprised by how much better the replacement radio is. The lost one cost me around $50 and could never seem to hold a station properly, fading in and out as I moved. Granted this Grundig doesn't have preset stations or digital tuning but I mostly listen to only one station anyway. The readout is digital and easy to read. The red color was convient when I accidentally dropped it in the grass( I found it right away). I'm almost glad that I lost the overpraised, inferior CCrane radio as I would not have bought this much better, affordable one. I'm thinking of getting another one for backup.

On-off-on ?
Put batteries in it and it worked great. Very nice. I made the mistake of switching the lock key and then for a bit nothing I did would allow me to turn the radio off! It worked great on my walk, is wonderfully small, powerful out of doors, but.... just don't hit the lock switch. At least don't do that on mine! Decided not to send back. It is a nice radio for the size and the money. Bought some high grade ear phones to go with it. The ones that came with it were as expected - one step above airline givaways. It should serve me well. I like it. Fits well in the pocket. Alarm is nice. Time is nice. Just don't hit the lock switch.I may buy two more...in fact.
