Beautiful book with clear instructions and pictures! Be aware though this book focuses heavily on wire wrapping jewelry and adding solder to it. Still very useful

No issues with seller...got book quickly after it was released and in good condition.The book itself is interesting. I think this may be one of the few books I've seen recently that is a totally difference technique...one I haven't seen before. A cross between jewelry making and stained glass. Interesting and some good instructions...nice pictures to go with instructions. All-in-all very pleased with my purchase.

I was interested in learning how to use the molten lava/molten solder technique. Had never used a soldering iron before. This book had all the information I needed. I liked the projects in the book that helped build soldering skills. The photos were good and the text easy to understand. I can recommend Soldered Alchemy - it is one I'll keep around and refer to again. BTW, I really like the jewelry I've made for myself and others using this technique.

Bought this book to help provide ideas of soldering for stained glass, but enjoyed it so much, that now I'm going to give jewelry making a shot!

This book I love. I have learned a lot about soldering jewelry. It is so easy to read and follow. It is my favorite learning soldering book that uses the iron solderer and not the torch. I don't want to use the torch and had a very hard time finding a book that is dedicated to the iron. I am learning a lot. I am so glad I came across this book. Wish I could find more.

Exceptional resource for anyone who wants to try soft soldering or wants to refresh techniques. Uses old school supplies and with the advances in soldering, tip thinner paste works just as well without the toxic fumes of sal amoniac.

I bought Soldered Alchemy to learn a technique I'd been wanting to take up. A friend of mine works in stained glass, and I'd been thinking that her processes could be applied to jewelry making. Speaking as an experienced jewelry artist, though, I'd say that this book is written from the perspective of someone who has worked in stained glass and is now into jewelry making, rather than someone who began with jewelry. For instance, there are very detailed instructions on how to make an S clasp, a finding that most beginner jewelers learn. But the skills and how-to's for soldering are given very short shrift, no more than a few small paragraphs. Ms. Love mentions decorative soldering in an extremely small section, and recommends "experimenting" with a rheostat to find the correct temperature, without even suggesting what the temperature range might be. Tinning gets one sentence, with a few pictures. Nowhere are actual soldering theories and processes discussed, with basic, detailed technique tips, with the exception of good information about foiling. In other words, the book is written from the standpoint that readers are at least somewhat familiar with how to solder. My guess is that Ms. Love perfected her technique so long ago, she simply didn't put herself in the place of a total newbie.All of the above said, the projects are beautiful and creative. They would definitely serve as inspiration for those who, like Ms. Love, are expanding soft soldering skills from glass to jewelry.
