How is the latency? I see one review saying it’s extremely high, and another saying it’s very little.

Latency is dependent upon the electronic equipment you are using. For example, if you are using an older or slower computer, you might hear a lag between the sound and the keystroke. The same if you are sending sound through multiple devices before it hits the speakers. When I connected the USB cable to a Laptop running with an Intel Celeron N4500 processor and then a audio patch to my module before going to the speakers, I had considerable sound lag. When connecting the same way, but using a Laptop with an Intel i3 processor or an AMD Rizen 7 5700U processor, there was no lag in sound to keystroke.

Will this allow me to interface with online piano lessons?

If your keyboard has midi ins and outs, this will work for you. If your keyboard has a USB Jack, just get a regular USB cable.

Is this supposed to work with midi ports on an electronic drum set? i have an alesis surge e-drum set. i tried it, but it did not work.

It should work with the MIDI ports. They work fine to connect my 33 year old Korg synthesizer to Garage Band on my Mac. They even work for my iPhone (with a lightning adapter). Make sure you have them in the right ports. On this cable, the one that says in goes to the out port on the drums and the one that says out goes to the in port. Those directions on the cable are from the standpoint of the computer. You also want to make sure that the device is powered on and connected before opening your DAW software (like Garage Band on a Mac). I’d also suggest making sure the device is connecting to the computer. My computer (Mac) has a MIDI setup tool in the utilities folder. That said, there could be a fault in the cable, in the ports on your drums, or on your computer (hardware or software), too.

Can you use more than one of these at the same time on a single computer? i have several old pieces of midi gear, want to use them at the same time.

Almost gave up on it

Needed it for a very specific music editing project which was known for quirky issues. I'd almost given up on this product believing it was in part not suited for the job and part not very good quality. It turned out to be quirk on the project itself.Note: if using this for microkorg editing software - it works. Check out thoracious appetite website for details on connecting. My cables were mislabeled

The product works fine now, but it didn't when I first got it because I plugged it into my midi device using the labels "in" and "out" as they were labeled. No communication via midi. On a whim, I just swapped them and it works fine now. So if your device doesn't work at first, the in and out cables are probably mislabeled. In the product photos it does show the red cable going into the 'midi in' jack of a keyboard and the white cable into the 'midi out'. But the cable I got has the red cable labled 'out' and the white cable labeled 'in'. So it's just the shrink wrap labels that are off.

Great plug and play MIDI cable with a good length

I purchased these cables for an older keyboard I just acquired that has midi ports instead of a USB 2.0 port. The cables are clearly labeled and color coded for midi in and out. They are a great length and make it easy to reach my computer from my keyboard. While you might find cheaper cables, these are a great value for money and I didn't have to work about the cable not working as advertised. No software installation or configuration was required, I was able to just plug in the cable and start using my device. Tech support sent me a message after I received the cable to make sure that it was working okay and not damaged in transit which I thought was nice. The cables seem pretty durable and I've had no issues with them so far!

In and Out cables are backwards

I thought the my keyboard wasn’t working until i decided to try switching the in and out cables to the wrong ports. other than that I really like the cables, they are nice material just labeled improperly. not sure if they are all like this but mine are!

Didn't Work

Didn't work. I tried using this on my midi keyboard and nothing connected. I tried using it on another device, didn't work. Yes, I saw the reviews that said to try switching the in and out, but that sadly didn't work. Cable quality is low.
