what maximum depth of wall will these allow ? I'm looking for 12mm plasterboard with a 12mm ply lining behind that ? So 24mm total?

Just from memory, I think they would be marginal at 24mm

Great for installing smart-switches etc

I got these to replace some existing plasterboard back-boxes to have more space to install Zigbee or Wifi smart switch modules for our home automation. They are easy to install, and seem robust enough, and have lots of space to put the switch module behind the existing switch or fused spur.
