Wow, this reader is VERY accurate.
Wow, this reader is VERY accurate. I did a remodel in the back yard and the pool was done too so we went with a new salt Pentair system. Working on getting the salt up to 3600ppm as per Pentair guide. I purchased this digital salt meter AND the AquaCheck test strips so I would have 2 readings to compare. The test strip came in at 5.9 = 2540ppm and the digital meter came in at 2543! I could not believe it, so I wasted a 2nd strip and retested later in the day when it was hot (it hit 95 in Los Angeles today) water temp was 78 and went 2 feet below the surface for another sample and they were both coming back the same again! Now I know I can slowly get to the 3600 without going over and it can get it to the perfect spec. I would have been willing to pay double the amount for a device this accurate.

A salt meter for your pool that actually works
Let’s start with the obvious it’s expensive. However, it does exactly what is intended test the salt levels in your swimming pool. There is an added benefit to this specific item and that it is already calibrated. This just means that it’s easier to use straight out of the packaging. The packaging itself is pretty cool and that I did not expect it to actually have a synthetic leather cover for the actual device. This is an addition to the actual plastic cap that goes over the prongs. I have been using it in the manner of taking some pool water with a glass about 2 inches and dipping The prongs into the water and giving it a decent swirl. So far, no issues whatsoever on the readings they are very accurate. I have been testing it with test strips and I also have a saltwater meter that runs when the pool is on. I would say if there is a deviation it is less than 250 ppm. I cannot otherwise have any complaints but it is a simple product that does a very simple thing and otherwise no complaints.

A must have for DIY Salt Pool Ownere
I am mostly a do it yourselfer with my salt pool except for the large plumbing and electrical stuff. I was cleaning my IChlor 30 salt generator however when I was done the green salinity light was blinking. I thought I had done something wrong with the cleaning and called Pentair who suggested I replace the flow meter. I was convinced that I had the right amount of salinity in the pool and that the green blinking light was an error. I replaced the flow meter and when I was done and restarted the pool the green light was still blinking. This indicates that the salinity is above 4500 ppm. So, either I had not installed the flowmeter correctly or the reading was correct and I had been adding too much salt to my pool because the reading from the iChlor was an error. Finally I purchased the salinity tester and lo and behold the salinity in the pool was in fact above 4500 and before I had cleaned the salt generator it was giving me false readings. Completely opposite of what I had thought. With the salinity tester I now have a trusty salt reading that I can periodically bounce against the iChlor reading. I wish I’d done that from the start however live and learn.

Didn’t work again after the first time.
Mine worked once the first time I immersed it. I rinsed it according to instructions and put it back in its case, and it never worked again as far as reading the salt levels. Very disappointing.
