How bad is the backlash or 'birdsnest' problems?

No problem if you know how to set up your baitcaster, suggest you watch a couple you tube videos on how to, always set reel speed to slow first, start with 1 oz weight, cast and adjust to stop backspin, then set star drag, repeat

Is this real classified as a size 300

It is a large size reel good and strong. I don't know if it's classified as a 300 size are not but it not quite as large as my Curado 300

Can this be used as a catfishing real for big blue cats and flatheads

Its more of a question of line capacity and sinker weight. It has a 22lb drag on it so it would handle a nice sized catfish. It’s a stout reel but unless you use braid, the heavier mono lines won’t give you much to work with. But for big blues and flatties 50 plus, I would think this reel would be out of its league. I fish for cats in smaller lakes with mine. I use my catfish rods for river systems.

Can you put 12 pound fluoro?

12 pound is .35mm so it should fit just not as much.
