Can you put oil in here too to cook meats and veggies? Will it be hot enough to melt cheese or heat up oil?

I would not recommend this for oil to cook meats. I would recommend melting and chocolate or cheese first but it gets hot enough to keep it melted while enjoying.

The product description says it holds 26 oz. Is that accurate? It doesn't look that big.

It only holds half of a recipe serving for fondue. It is very cute and fun but not real big at all.

Can a sterno be used in this set instead of a tea light?

Hello, This fondue set is used to keep your fondue nice and warm while you are enjoying it. A Sterno canned heat would be too much heat which may result burn your fondue. Does come with a set of directions? mine did not :( i want to make sure i use it right so as not to ruin it. should i melt the cheese first?

Yes,came with directions. This should be used as a warmer. Make and cook the fondue in a pot on stove top first. Then pour into heart dish with tea light below to keep fondue hot. Works great, loved it. Enjoy.
