How come the fitment tells me it doesn't fit my wrangler jk rubicon ?

I have one on my JK Rubicon, so I am not sure why they say it does not fit. Mine fits fine.

The first description for the 10s states a roller fairlead, the specifications then state a Hause fairlead. Which is it?

If it's an "S", it's synthetic line and uses the haws fairlead. If it's just a 10 or a 12 or an 8, it will have cable and use the roller.

I plan to carry it as checkin baggage but need to get the package under 50lbs. How simple is it to pack the rope etc separately?

The rope did not come spooled, so you can unpack the large box how you desire and re-pack items elsewhere. I do not know how much the unit itself weighs.

This winch is going on a late model wrangler rubicon 392 jl. i must have a 90-degree clutch handle to operate with the stock bumper. does it?

Yes. I have the 12-S on my 392 and it fits fine. Do not buy the 10-S Premium as it does not have the manual clutch and the remote is terrible.
