Such a step up from the original sharpener.
I bought the very first version of the electric sharpener when they were new to the market and used it for over a decade. I had to replace the bands obviously due to use and had to replace the guards once time due to wear from the thousands of times a knife blade was pulled through them. That being said, over 10 years later, I still have that device and it runs like the day I got it. This week I upgraded to the MK2 design finally and what a change that was. I had no clue just how much easier it would be to use and how much better it would sharpen my knives in the kitchen. With the MK2 I don't need to have any skill really, no special knowledge of knife sharpening, nothing more than being able to pull a knife across a belt at a similar speed. I was able to sharpen knives that have been beaten to death in just a few minutes to literally shave my arm. I was shocked. I think one of the biggest factors is the accuracy of the blade guide vs the old model. The Mk2 does a great job at putting the blade exactly where it needs to be to get that perfect burr and then again to get that laser sharp edge we usually only see on high dollar knives or knives the first time we use them. Even my old cleaver is razer sharp now after just a few minutes. I think it took maybe 10 pulls on the grinder belt, then 10 more on the fine finishing belt and I was done. I had to warn the family to be careful with the knives as they are sharp again. Being so easy to set up means it only takes me a moment to get the device on the table and ready for action. This means I will use it more often to maintain my sharp knives. If its a pain to set up and becomes a task I am not going to resharpen as often. This tool removes all that worry. I find myself even taking it our just to put a fresh edge on my finer knives before I cut a nice meat or carve a bird. Sure there are way to get even sharper knives but that is for people who enjoy the art of knife sharpening. A lot of folks really do enjoy the satisfaction of a wet stone and metal and years of skill producing an amazing edge. If you are that person, this isn't your tool. But if you are like most folks and want to be able to make chef sharp kitchen knives with no skill, no learning time, no practice, and minimal effort, this is your tool for sure. I really love this MK2 and can't wait to use it for years to come.

All around awesome little device. Love it!
Works great. I have had one of the name brand counter top sharpeners for about 1p years. Used it on occasion and never happy w results. Cost at least 6 times what this unit cost and was bulky w average results. Also took longer.I started sharpening w this as soon as I opened after quickly checking the simple directions. Easy, quick and sharp results. I actually sharpened every knife in our kitchen in one session. That was a first

Knife Sharpener
Every knife in my house is razor sharp. I bought more for my kids. Excellant tool easy to use and just what my limited knife sharper skills required.

It is the coolest tool I own that I use regularly
Coolest toy I own! It works great and the instructions are very clear on how to get started. It purposely dulled several blades just to use it again. I have used it on cooking knives, cleavers, steak knives, pocket knives, axes, mauls, and even hedge trimmers. It felt like a lot of money to sharpen a blade at first but as soon as I opened the box I had no regrets. Sharpening the axe I felt like an Orc preparing for a war with sparkles and metal cups flying across my garage. Once the fantasy was done I was able to go out and split oak for hours. Would a file have worked, yes. Will I sharpen every blade I ever own on this thing and offer to do friends as well? 1000% it is so cool and fun!

Very good sharpener.
The sharpener does well in getting your knives very sharp - Sharp enough to cut ordinary printer paper. However, if you want to get your knife sharper, you will have to at least go with a finer grit (ceramic stone in my case) and strop it with a leather strop. I've heard that the progression from the coarse grit to the fine grit may be a little much of a jump, but I don't know for sure. If you don't have any sharpening skills, I think this is a good investment. It will not get your knives shaving sharp without further edge refinement. Also, after sharpening only three knives, the leather lining on the downward angle guide has started to come off. It may be because I was sharpening a Damascus Steel blade that caused this by virtue of the texture of the steel layers in the blade. That being said, I don't think you will get a better knife sharpening device at this price point and the extra measures you need to take to get your knives really sharp apply when using sharpening stones equally as well (Ceramic, wet, or diamond).

Love this thing
This thing is so easy to use. Takes about 10 minutes to master. All my knives are now sharp. My one piece of advice would be to buy extra belts.

Great value, works perfect
I was unsure if I should buy this one or the Ken Onion and was glad I went the budget route. I sharpened pocket knives, kitchen knifes and my fish filet knives. It's quick and easy to learn and gives me the edge I want. It isn't as good as a set of stones that can give a true razor sharpness, but it's 90% there with 10% of the work which is exactly what I wanted.
