To Michael, who did not understand the question: The initial answer summed it up--beautifully, but, because I'm verbose I'll extrapolate: These cords are indomitable, much like the Puli dog, and any attempt to dominate or suppress their innate temperament will result in either you breaking down from sheer frustration or their snapping and becoming obstructive. When someone raises issues of 'authority', it's likely they have control issues, and certain products, like certain dog breeds, may not be a match. I've had Pulik and we developed mutual respect and loyalty. Thanks to prior training by these Pulik, I've also had no problems with this product, which I'm purchasing again. If the person who asked the original question is willing to use these with respect, they shouldn't have any problems. I should add that just like a Puli, if you try to force them to go somewhere they're not interested in, they can be quite wily, choose their optimal moment to make a move--likely your worst--and over time become completely intractable. Luckily, in the case of Pulik, their wonderful sense of humor and stunning good looks make all this effort worth it. (I just did a quick search of 'puli' and (how cool) a pic of my own (now deceased) boy, Max, popped up from Wikipedia. The photog had posted it. He's standing in a park parking lot and has a small green bead on one of his own neck cords. He was Rasta dog for Halloween. )

All heavy duty plastic ends. I agreed with Courtney, don't use for anything other than holding things together. I like the pack because it has so many options.

How is the 11 inches measured? Is it the total around-the-loop length of the cord, or is it the tip-tip length of the doubled cord?

I actually bought the 6", but you got me intrigued. well, 6" would be the length of the stretched (double) cord, meaning it can tie around 6" diameter.
