Solid
Excellent product. It has a metal clip with a spring latch on one end that is not removable and a plastic detachable end with a metal loop key ring on the other end. What ever you can get on the key ring will probably hold bc the device is solid. The black plastic part that holds the reel is about 2.5 in squared. It has a locking mechanism so the cord won't retract if you don't want it to. The cord itself is about the thickness of a thin shoelace. The retraction force is very strong and consistent and I have not had any flaws with it so far (Esp. Compared to the cheap ones you get at the hardware store). The only thing I don't like about it is the thing is 6 inches from end to end and the metal clip on one end is permanently attached. I realize I use it for a purpose other than what it is advertised for, (biking bag) but I can tell you it is a reliable solid device, it just hangs really low due to it's length and when you hook something to the end of it it can be annoying that there is a bit of a reach.

Well worth the cost for a well-made product that will keep your gear safe and streamlined
I've used a number of gear retractors over the years but this is the first that was both strong enough to keep my gauges against my BC and also easy for me to pull out to view my SPG. This retractor also allows you to lock the extended line out at any point along its length. I bought a second one for my wife who clips it to her (fairly large and heavy) camera/strobe rig underwater and extends the line out to allow her full range of movement with the camera, knowing the line is there to save the camera should she inadvertently drop it. Then she retracts the line in all the way to keep the camera snug to her BC and her hands free to monitor gauges when we ascend for our safety stop. The camera then unclips from the retractor to be handed up to the waiting boat crew. And the metal clip on one end of the retractor can be used as a tank banger in a pinch. All in all, a great product.

Excellent for Fishing and Tools
The media could not be loaded. Above is my fishing belt with a variety of tools on Gear Keeper retractors. As you might imagine my efficiency in the boat is extremely high because I’m never looking for a pliers, file or fish grip; they are always immediately available. Since the retractors come in different pull weights the key is to match the weights to the tool. A light file needs a minimum pull and a heavy pliers needs another. Nice thing about these is the ability to keep a retractor in place and just switch out the ends. Also, how the retractor attaches to, for example, a belt is a consideration because they come with various connectors. Notice how I mounted the white fish grip retractor high on the belt, compared to the pliers retractor that hangs down quite a bit. The reason for those different positions is because each puts that particular tool in exactly the optimal place for how I use it in fishing situations. To get the most out of the retractor think that through and position it optimally. Once correctly dialed in your efficiency will be notably improved for whatever task is at hand. From the finish on some of these it’s apparent they have been used for many years, including in salt water. No failures yet.

It's great
A little tight for a mic holder. But very good product.

Ideal for diving lights
A diver's must have. Throw away your long clips and bungees (add danger here) and go with these for your diving strobes, etc. My first one lasted 300 dives. I rinse it more now after a dive.
