New Old Lighter
I'm a fan of the vintage Zippo lighter look. After only a couple of weeks of riding around in my pocket with assorted coins and other objects, the brass finish on the case is developing a pattern of wear and patina. This may not be for everyone, and if you want your lighter to remain as pretty as it is when it comes out of the box, then you might not want to carry it the way I do. But if you don't mind your lighter looking well-used, this one will develop that look in short order.Functionally, this lighter works like any other Zippo: Top it up with fuel every two or three days depending on your usage, and it will always be ready to perform beautifully.

What else is there to say?
The virtues of the Zippo Lighter have really been sung since 1932, so 90+ years later there isn't anything to say that hasn't been said already. But that won't stop me...I have several of these. Relevant to this review are three of them - the brushed chrome 1935 and 1941 replicas, and the sterling silver 1941.My use case - I smoke cigars. Probably more than I should, but whatever. The cigar culture tends to default to those butane torch lighters, which to me tend to lack in the performance department. I like soft flame lighters, and don't judge me. Using a Bic lighter is, honestly, a non starter for me because, well, it lacks style AND I really don't like throwing empty lighters away to sit in a landfill for a thousand years or whatever. Yes, one of the reasons I like Zippos is the environmental factor. Sue me.The Zippo price point is really appropriate given that you're buying a lighter that will, honestly, outlive you. The mechanism is dead simple (and therefore reliable) with a flame that doesn't go out at all easily. And while the Cigar Crowd gives me some grief for the whole "but but but lighter fluid has a smell that ruins the cigar!!1!!2111" I just say "you do you." Because honestly...it is a non factor. But here's where we get interesting, and I'm referencing the Precious Metals collection. While el-cheapo torch lighters can be had at a low cost, they also are horrible. To get a GOOD torch lighter you're going to go to a brand like S.T. DuPont, and yes those cost in the $150-$200 range for the entry level. And they are still torch lighters, meaning a mechanism that doesn't really lend itself well to repair. So, put me down for the sterling silver Zippo. It's still a bit on the ostentatious side, maybe, but so what. Given the choice between the S.T Dupont and this especially at the same price point...I'll go for this every time.Really, Zippo has become an American culture touchstone, and it's something I look at fondly. There's really nothing in the world like it, and for that I'm happy. Dead simple, iconic, and reliable: that's more than enough elan for me....

For the Vintage American in You
Like all true Zippos, this will light in almost any wind or weather. You have a choice between a hundred or more different Zippo designs. Why buy this one?I love this lighter because it is both elegant and no-frills, which is a hard look to achieve. Though the differences are subtle, the rounder lid and sharper side angles give this lighter a kind of vintage appeal that the metal accentuates. While the sides are brushed, as you can see in the picture, the top is a little bit shinier. Personally, I like the contrast. Every time I use this lighter, I feel like it could be the one a GI in WWII used in some small French village. The classic click-snap of the mechanism feels more authentic in this case. There is another popular vintage Zippo being made, patterned on a 1930s model. That model is a little more "elegant" than this one, with a glossier finish and a small stripes on the corners that give it a more upscale look. Some people may prefer that look. I prefer this model, which is more subtly vintage and doesn't try quite so hard. The difference, to me, is that 1930s model looks like it belongs in a mid-century New York skyscraper, and this one was made for the working man of that era. Today, they both look upscale, but this one has a little more of the populist in its design, which I personally prefer. In summary, this blends American utilitarianism with vintage lines. If your vibe is American classic, this is the lighter for you.

History in your Palm
I love this lighter. The texture and finish look amazing, I am very happy with the color/material variant I chose. It’s almost mesmerizing to look at. It feels great in my palm- just the right size.I use standard Zippo lighter fluid and I’m getting right around 2-3 weeks between fill ups and I use it every day. I wish the lighter fluid was a little cheaper, but it’s a small price to pay to have an amazing piece of history in your hands.
