Is this the software I need to open desings on my computers

No. It's a software to view your designs as a thumbnail when opening a folder on your PC. So instead of just seeing the name of the file you see the actual design as an icon in your folder. It's bern a lifesaver for me because you don't have to open the design to see what it is.

I have macos big sur and have it on icons.. i went to help on embrillance and downloaded a file that i was told would fix it. nope?

Turn in a ticket to Embrilliance techs. Also, have you granted full disk access? Have you chosen the file extensions that you want to see? I had problems at first with Mac's updates, but tech walked me through what I needed to do. Good luck. You should be up and going soon.

how many designs can be stored on this softwear or can be used. I have a very, very very ,large collection of deisgns

Since designs are not stored on the software, so there is no limitations that I can see. This software allows me to see my thousands of embroidery designs in small to large icons. It works very, very well for me at a very reasonable price.

Can I use this on a Bernina 790 plus

Yes, it has the exp formatting that Bernina uses
