Works great!
After trying to find some way to get accurate temperature readings in the morning and evening (the times my thermometer is in the sun)I bought the SRS100LX. I tried a product from a different company that cost approximately $95.00. That other product claimed to be a small thermometer screen, it in reality was nothing but junk that did not work. My fault for not doing enough research in the beginning. The SRS100LX works awesome. I have had not even one iota of a temperature spike. I have done tests with three sensors. One in the shade, one in the direct sun, the third sensor in the SRS100LX in the direct sun. The temperature in the shade was 73*, the temperature in the direct sun was 91*, the temperature of the third was 73*. All sensors setup the same(distance above ground, distance from nearby objects, etc.) this thing works and works well. The price is right too.Not sure how it would work if it was in the sun all day long, I only have sun on my thermometer in the morning and afternoon.I had given up fixing this issue and then found this product online, bought it on a whim, SO glad I did, I now have accurate temperatures all day long! The only thing I am going to do is buy three lock washers to put beneath the three wing nuts just to give a little reassurance that things will not loosen up.My biggest question before buying this is if it would work with other company's sensors. I didn't find much information on this but yes it does. I am using it with my Lacrosse sensor. It appears that my other sensors would fit in there just fine too. So, YES, this will work with many different sensors. I am loving this thing. I hope this review helps someone.

Good product but flimsy mounting bracket.
I bought this to house the outdoor sensor for the Ambient Weather WS-2801A Color Weather Station. I found there was no place around my house that I could put the senor where it would not be exposed to direct sunlight at least part of the day--making temperature readings at that time inaccurate. This product effectively shields the sensor and protects it from the weather. However, the plastic mounting bracket is very flimsy, and likely to break in a severe storm. So I modified it by attaching a galvanized metal bracket over the plastic bracket to strengthen it (see photo). This simple "fix" strengthened the bracket enough that I think it could even survive one of our Florida hurricanes!

Bracket Too Weak
The unit seemed to give the protection from sun that was required to get accurate readings. The problem is the bracket that holds it. It is plastic and must be weak. This is for weather equipement. Winds were 20-35 mph and the bracket broke and I lost my brand new AIR unit from Weatherflow as well as this "protective" covering as none of it was locatable after disappearing from its mount. Do not use this if you have anything more than pretty light winds. I am out the $49 for this plus I'm afraid more than $100 for my AIR unit. I'll have to replace it and they will not be available until June. I am really disappointed.

In service for 13 years, and still in use.
I've had my radiation shield for over 13 years and still in use. Mounted on a 4x4, it has stayed intact despite all kinds of weather conditions. I have mounted two temperature sensors inside to compare the readings of both, which are normally within a degree of each other. My temperature readings are consistent with the local airport as reported on the NWS website. The mounting bracket could be a bit stronger because there is a droop caused by just the weight of the shield and the two very light sensors. All in all, the shield has served me very well. If anything ever happens to it, it will be replaced with the same product.

Flimsy, Sags Under it's Own WEIGHT!
Everything was looking and feeling great, until I hung it. It immediately sagged under it's own weight and wobbled wildly when touched. I believe that the mounting bracket itself is insufficient to hold the weight of the unit. The molded in bracing in the bracket did not even extend to either the shield's mounting screws or to the edges of the bracket. This bracing was also thin. Likely some Scrooge trying to save a penny for the manufacturer. OBTW, it is mounted to a 4 foot tall heavy gauge T-Post; well embedded in firm, dry soil. The T-Post is not the problem. The shield's bracket is what is flexing. Likely the top plate is also insufficient in strength. The continuous wobbling in the wind will most certainly lead to cracking and failure. Given the flimsy nature of the shield, it is grossly over priced!!! Shame on Ambient Weather and the engineers who designed and priced this. There is nothing about this item to justify the price. I gave it a generous rating of two only because it does work. I doubt it will last long in the wind and sun.Sure enough, after a couple years in the wind, the bracket did in fact break. So for the past several years, I have had to wire it to my T-Post. By year 6, it was severely sun rotted and had to be thrown out.

overpriced, but functional and versatile
This product is a little expensive, but I think it is worth it for what it does. It was easy to assemble, and when ready install, can hang in a variety of ways, which is very handy. It seems to have stabilized my temperature swings I was experiencing with the included heat shield and it should, because it is at least three to four times the size. Overall very happy so far!

This shield is great!!!
I needed to install an Oregon Scientific THR 138 wireless temperature sensor (about the size of a deck of cards)above a fence, in an area that's exposed to direct sun for much of the day. The sensor fit just fine inside "the pocket" of this easy to assemble temperature shield. I attached the shield to a piece of 1" PVC pipe, and attached the pipe to one of the vertical fence posts. The whole process (assembly, pipe mounting, etc...) took me all of 20 minutes.I have other temperature sensors located in other areas outside of the building and I have access to temperature readings from weather stations in the surrounding area. The readings I'm getting from the Oregon Scientific sensor inside the Ambient SRS100XL are right on the money, even when the sun is shining on the shield. I highly recommend this excellent product.
