Can you put sounds on it wothout an SD card?

Yes. You connect the device to a computer via a USB cable. When you do that, the device shows up in your computer's library as an external storage device. You can then copy/move the voice or sound file that's on your computer to the device.

I formatted the internal drive and placed an mp3 file and it doesn't play the sound. light flashes when I hold A for long and sound is set to high.?

You format and delete following the steps in the enclosed manual, try multiple deletions, and make sure your MP3 file doesn't exceed the memory capacity. If you're using an Apple computer, try emptying the Recycle Bin.

Is the motion sensor distance programmable?

No, the motion sensor distance is not adjustable, it is a fixed length.

Once triggered, does this device play the same sound file over and over again? Using it for a Halloween prop but would like it to say different things

Once triggered by motion, the device plays the single track it is programmed to play. Then it stops & is silent until triggered again by motion, and then it plays the same track again. If you wanted different sounds, you "could" record a long, single mp4 track w/ different sounds and pauses between the sounds, then upload the mp4 to the device. Then when triggered, the device would play the track w/ different sound and pauses between them until completed. But there is a limit to the amount of memory built into the device and how many Mb can be uploaded to it. I don't think the device could hold and playback much more than a minute of sounds (if that)
