Costly but worth it.
Replacing my old tempo trainer pro that's lasted about 9 years! Yep. I think it being dropped on hard tiled floors and at times left for months in a damp swim kit bag would kill it, but not until recently... I've just replace it. Some people say it's difficult to replace the battery. But I've changed it about 5 times and never had any issues until my old one started switching it self off. I've always placed it under my swim cap and have probably used it about 200 times. It's a great device and simple in use, but really helps with timings and keeping a near perfect stroke rate. They're not cheap, but worth it.

Pricey but useful.
Expensive for what it is but a very useful piece of swim kit nonetheless. An easy way to train your stroke rate and less expensive than smart goggles.

Great idea, could be perfected
This is great idea for working on your pacing while swimming. The device is a perfect size to fit under my cap without feeling obtrusive. Mine has got wet and still works fine, and I've had mine for several months now (swim twice daily). The colour is great as it is highly visible in pool settings (so I imagine that, if I dropped it in the deep end, I could easily find it on the bottom of the pool). But there are a few downsides to this product:1) Beep volume can vary a LOT depending on where you place it under your cap. This is likely just basic body physics - some parts of the skull will transmit sound more effectively than others. But it took me a while using it to figure out the best placement for me.2) Button design could be improved. Changing the settings and switching it on and off can be really fiddly to do. Not good when you're trying to get the maximum amount of practice in during a short session, and not great when you're trying to limit the rest periods between sets. I find I regularly spend more time trying to set this device than I'd like to. I also find I sometimes have trouble switching it off on the first attempt. Not a major issue, but the beeps do get annoying when you don't want to be hearing them anymore.3) I haven't bothered to use it for cycling or running (as Finis claim you can do). I don't do these sports competitively, so I've no need to use it there, but I also struggle to see how it outperform an mp3 player (or other training device that incorporates headphones) in these situations.A future iteration of this product should consider overcoming the first two issues. I hope Finis are taking note of customer feedback. They do make some very innovate pool products, but their execution of these tools could be improved.

Absolute rubbish!!
Reposting my review that from amazon.comIn 12 weeks I've had two TT Pros fail & one of the clips break. Shameful quality from the once reliable Finis! After using the old TT (blue) for a couple of years I thought I'd spring for the new Pro model (yellow) with the strokes per minute mode. The bracket/clip/holder for the first TT pro showed stress cracks within the first week (I took photos as the it was obvious the cracks would propagate and it would fracture in the near future) and after a few more weeks indeed the clip broke. I contacted Finis to point out the design fault and they eventually shipped me a new clip.By the time the new clip arrived however the actual timer unit has ceased to function. Tried new battery. Nothing. To keep training on schedule I ordered another immediately. (Sometimes you get a lemon right?)The new TT pro lasted 2 swim sessions (3 days) before failing to work properly. It would beep only intermittently, switch itself off during a swim, when trying to adjust the tempo it would switch off, if set to more than 61 strokes per minute it locked up with a constantly audio tone and needed the battery removed in order to switch it off. Useless.Do NOT buy the TT Pro. Finis should be ashamed. Whoever is in charge of quality control for the TT pro should be sacked.Stick to the old (blue) Tempo Trainer - I'm back to using mine, still good after more than two years of use several times a week!

Great training tool
I am currently 're-learning' freestyle after picking up a lot of bad habits and hitting a plateau with my swimming, and this little tool is a must have as it helps with rhythm, timing and also you can adjust it up and down for warm ups, warm downs, intervals, and generally to get your stroke rate up/down to the optimum. I have fins and paddles too, but hardly get chance to use those unless I'm the only one in the lane, whilst this, you can tuck under your swim cap and use it anywhere.

Great value training tool
Great value and does exactly what it promised. Can be used to make you more aware of your cadence and the effect that any changes in cadence can have on your performance. Also great as an incentive to 'hit those splits'. It's been simple to use and reliable and provided you have a good plan for using it in your sessions it can make them interesting and could lead to improved performance. The added amusement value is that other people in the pool think there's an alarm going off somehwere! :-)
