A Beautifully Curated Visual Resource – Inspiring for Artists and Designers Alike
I purchased A Dictionary of Color Combinations Vol. 1 as a gift for my wife, who studied art, and she absolutely loved it. The book is a visually rich, thoughtfully organized reference that offers timeless and unique color palettes drawn from traditional Japanese design principles. Each page presents carefully selected color combinations that spark creativity and serve as inspiration for any kind of visual work—painting, design, fashion, or interior styling. The minimalist layout makes it not just practical but also beautiful to flip through.Whether you’re a trained artist, designer, or simply someone who appreciates the power of color, this book is a highly rewarding and elegant resource. It makes a fantastic gift and a lasting addition to any creative library. Strongly recommended.

Gorgeous amazing book
Absolutely beautiful book on every level, from the quality and attention to detail typical of Japanese printing, to the visceral experience of paging through so many beautiful colors and combinations in which I immediately found dozens of favorites, it really made my day. Instantly impulse bought Vol 2. Besides the combinations, some of the colors themselves and the CMYK recipes are priceless.

Important book to have
This book is truly a must-have! I loved it so much that I’ve already bought it three times as a gift for friends. Each time, it’s been just as appreciated as when I first discovered it myself.

A perfect little reference book
I agree with other reviewers that this little book is great - it has a nice feel to it and a great little size. It took me a while to catch on to the organization (all text is in Japanese), but essentially it organizes 159 different colors into combinations of 2, 3, and 4 - then indicates what page it is on for each combination of that color. The back pages of colors are one sided so (I'm guessing) can be cut off into strips to play around with to make your own combinations - or match elsewhere. That makes this part work book, a nice touch! Some of the color combinations allowed me to see my wardrobe a little differently, a very good thing! Some of the color combinations I find to be too weird. However, the reason I got this reference book of colors is because of my own painting compositions and I know it will prove to be useful.

A pocket-size giant
A dictionary of two color, three color and four color harmonies. English color names. A slight minus for the preface and othere texts being in Japanese only - but here's where Google translate comes in handy.

Small and beautiful
This small gem was delivered quickly and in excellent condition. The sticker was on the outer cellophane bag and not on the book cover. Have to figure out how to use it in conjunction with the color wheel but will experiment with paint mixtures to see how closely I can duplicate the printed color swatches. Color labels in English are very helpful. Wish the entire narrative at the beginning of the book were translated into English. I would have loved to understand the history of the making of this book.
