It depends on what boiler you have ,this is specific to certain Worcester Bosch Boilers. On the boiler I have you remove a small blanking plate on the front of the boiler then connection is via a ribbon cable that connects to the circuit board in the boiler . The controller is wireless so no connections required .

The water temperature is maintained by the boiler thermostat. Independent of the thermostat.
