Interesting Read
An interesting useful read to a degree but I would agree with a previous reviewer that it is a bit basic.Good for a newly diagnosed who has been prescribed prednisone.

Informed and easy to understand. Packed with advice
Whilst steroids are often hailed as a wonder drug, they aren’t without side effects. For patients required to take even relatively low amounts over a long period, the side effects can cause other serious health problems. This book sets out in clear and easy to understand language the benefits and the downside. There’s general advice on how to cope with such things as weight gain, mood change and other lifestyle changes. Although American, the advice. Is universal. It’s written by a medic whose sister was prescribed steroids, so it’s based on real life experience and an informed viewpoint. A lot of really useful advice and this is a book I’d have no hesitation in recommending if you have to take any steroid for more than a few days.

Essential reading if you want to endure prednisolone without the side effects.
It's worked for me. No side effects, no moon face, no weight gain. To be recommended for anyone starting on prednisolone.

A lackluster drug-travelogue!
I was quite disappointed with this book... I was hoping for some more detailed explanations of the symptoms and some real solutions to the side effects of the medication. The information in the is incredibly basic and I find myself wondering what audience it is intended for. While they do list the side effects of the medication, 90% of the book seems to be focussed on Eugenia Zukerman's personal experience on prednisone - ie. like a drug travelogue -stories of her travels, personal thoughts and reactions to being on prednison. There are very few facts or useful suggestions on how to actually cope or manage the side effects. The diet section was so bare bones as to be a bit of a joke. (Reduce salt, sugar and fat to avoid bloating and weight gain? Really? Who DOESN'T know this in today's day and age?)Not worth the money. Do your research online and look for reduced salt/sugar/fat recipes on Allrecipes and save yourself the money and aggravation.

A very honest account
A great book for those people who are on long term steroid treatment. Its very honest and I love the way you have the opinion of the patient coupled with the doctor... the fact that they are sisters makes it all the more real. The only reason I have rated it a 4 star is because it is American and I am British, meaning some of the references are lost on me. I really recommend this book.

Excellent Resource
As a patient who has been on large doses of prednisone for over two years, I find this book informative, and in some ways comforting. Learning about the side effects, many of which I had but was unaware that they came from the prednisone, was very helpful.

Information
I felt that the book didn’t give enough information about prednisone and ways to cope with the effects.

High-dose/long-term corticosteroid (prednisone etc) user? Get this!!
Really good read for anyone taking prednisone long-term (more than a week or two). I've been taking it for 7 months now and wish I would have just got this right away when I was on a higher dose. If you're on 10mg or higher - definitely a good resource with more in depth information than most doctors provide.
