That's What I Call A Pair of Loppers
These loppers have only just arrived - in true Amazon style in a box eight times bigger than necessary with paper packing ten yards long. They are a replacement for my 22 year old and now blunt Wilkinson Sword loppers, which have served me well. They are bigger and sturdier than the old ones and the blade is very sharp. I will enjoy using these and think they represent good value for money.

Good loppers
These loppers work well, applying considerable force and cutting through wood up to 2" thick. BUT, the blades dent easily and my show signs of wear after less than eight hours of use!! At £37, and already in need of sharpening, I would say they are expensive but they do work (which is more than can be said for the majority of loppers available on the market).

Sharp pruner
This was purchased to replace my old Wilkinson Sword pruners. The blade is sharp and cuts well. The handles feel sturdy. I have done a lot of heavy pruning and it works very well. The only drawback is that you need to open it very wide to hook the cutting head around a stem, and if the stem is in an awkward place, it is difficult to open the pruner enough. However, I cope with this by moving aside other branches. All in all, I can really recommend this product.

Fiskars L78 Loppers
These are the best loppers I've ever used and I've used a few! These loppers are geared rather than ratcheted which enables to cut through sizeable branches including green ones as if you are cutting through butter! I wouldn't have believed how good they were until I used them for myself. It was a friend who recommended them and I can tell you they have revolutionised my gardening! They are also extremely light which means no aching arms after using them. I simply will not be without them now and am quite possessive of them!!

Effortless to use
The loppers are very light and the power gear system make them very powerful for the length of handle. The shorter handles mean you can get up close to where you're cutting. I used these first for cutting back a pyracantha which would have been a painful process with secateurs and a bow saw. I've also used them cutting back branches of fir trees. They slice easily through branches of 4cm thickness and save a lot of time over a bow saw. I wouldn't be without them now and highly recommend them. I like the look and feel of Fiskars products and now tend to choose them over other brands.

Powerful
I'm never disappointed with anything I buy that has Fiskars written on it. These are lightweight and easy to use and I've never seen a pair of loppers cleave through a two inch hawthorn branch with quite so much ease. Don't be put off by the fact that they are made of plastic, Fiskars seem to have discovered some strange nigh unbreakable voodoo plastic that will quite happily take the strain of a full grown man putting as much force through the gearing as he can. The blade is razor sharp and keeps its edge impressively well and there's plenty of room for sharpening so these loppers have a good long lifespan. As with anything Fiskars they are pricey but unlike most expensive garden equipment Fiskars products are worth the price.

Great to start with but soon completely useless
These loppers worked fine for a while, then went very stiff, then very slack. The reason being the square shafted bolt which holds the handle (the one without the metal blade) turns in the square plastic hole intended to hold it firm. This results in it being very stiff until either or bothe the corners of the bolt shaft or the plastic hole get rounded. That then allows the bolt to turn and allows the nut to unscrew itself. All in all a bit of very poor design rendering the loppers not fit for purpose. After they go tight to operate you may as well throw them away and buy a decent product. However credit where credit is due, I e-mailed Fiskars regarding the issue and they responded within 12 hours offering a replacement upgraded pair of loppers, hopefully the upgrade will have overcome the deficiency of steel and plastic to withstand reasonable pressure.
