Will I be able to control volumn and temperature with separate controls?

How do I adjust the maximum hot water temperature? Turned all the way to hot, valve produces only warm water...

You would have to use the Adjustable temperature limit stop to control maximum hot water temperature. I would advise calling Moen directly so one of their technicians can help you troubleshoot that.

is the moen shower valve 2520 a shower only valve

Sorry i have this exact valve for sale and if you need i can send the plugs or adapters and instructions on how to install. Im assuming you have copper piping. If you have pex/uponor i can provide the adapters and plugs free of charge

why does the shower and tub outlet both come on?

If the valve is installed and you you are getting water through both outlets there could be a few problems here. You need a diverter pin on your tub spout, (something to lift up) to shut the water off to the tub spout and only to the shower head. If a little water still comes through it’s okay. If it’s still a lot replace the tub spout. If you want just the water through the tub spout but you get water through the shower head too there could be two issues, you can try to replace the cartridge (moen 1222) or the piping in the wall is not 1/2” copper and the installer put pex from the valve to the tub spout which restricts the flow. From the valve to the spout can only be copper. Or the other reason is that valve itself is installed upside down. The top of the valve that goes to the shower head is labeled “UP” take a look for that as well. Hope this helps!
