How many ounces of grinding compound are included in the tub and does it say what grit the compound is?

I don't know the answer to this but I have researched a less expensive alternative. You can buy 1 Pound of the grinding compound on ReelIn.com for $9. Then use your power drill to turn the blades and sharpen (see You Tube videos).

Can this be used on a Gardenia brand push mower?

well...if 1. it is a reel mower, and 2. you can access the (right) wheel for removal, then as long as there is a 3. blade gear propeller internal gear prong, then YES you can use it. the silver wheel spinner handle (see images) - which you need to spin the reels backwards (after applying the sharpening cream) while the wheels are elevated off the ground - fits onto the right wheel blade gear mechanism or propeller gear post. if all of the reel blade gears are the same, i imagine the internal propeller gear thingy would also hold this handle steady as you spin. that is the only fitment issue i can think of though.

What is the amount and grit rating of this lapping compound?

I'd say 70% grit but I can't say it for sure. I know it worked for it's intended purpose and very well. I actually still have the packaging and nowhere on it does it say the mixture ratio between grit and grease. Try emailing the manufacturer maybe.

Instead of removing a wheel and hand cranking the reel, can the mower just be pushed on a cement surface to rotate and sharpen the reel?

the downside to doing that is you're going to have to have a very long stretch of cement to run along. By taking the wheel off you can crank a lot "further" than walking would do. Also, you can add the compound to the blades more readily since its on its side and opened up.
