Can this radio transmit on the gmrs band (which of course requires licensing)?

Yes, it can transmit on GMRS frequencies. You are correct, that would require a license. However, keep in mind, differing GMRS frequencies are required to transmit at different maximum power levels. This device can transmit above those allowed by law power levels. If you wish to stay within the limits of the law I would suggest purchasing a dedicated GMRS radio. Having said this, having to ability to use a Ham band radio (2m/70cm) that will also transmit and receive in the MURS/FRS/GMRS frequencies is a nice feature. But using it as such will violate FCC regulations. Use your own judgement.

Can this be connected to an intercom?

Does this unit have a PL scan feature, like the Baofengs?
