Is the cutting mechanism removeable for cleaning?

It's not like a "regular" can opener. It never goes into the can where it can touch food. It cuts on the outside of the lid - remove from the opener - then pull off lid with fingers - lid can be put back on later as a cover....! An amazing 'gadget'......I wouldn't use anything else! Answer: not removable because food doesn't get on it!

Will it open a # 10 ?

I don't think I have opened #10 can but I'm sure it will, it is the best can opener I have found. In 39 years have had several can openers and will never use any other. Have been buying them for my hole family your kids can help out in the kitchen.

is there a smooth touch that stops automatically

Not sure what you mean by smooth touch. It does not stop automatically, which presents no problem for me. It does cut the edge smoothly...no sharp blade. I'm still very pleased with my purchase!

Easy to Use Can Opener

I was looking for a new can opener that opened the cans around without making a sharp edge for a while. I had a similar one for over 20 years and it finally started to get dull and not cutting the cans. I finally found this one and glad that I selected it for my choice to replace my old one. Easily does what it promises.

This replaced an older unit from a different manufacturer that had been difficult to operate from day one. This Hamilton Beach unit worked the first time and has been easy to operate from the moment it was plugged in. Wish we had changed out years ago.
