Just 1 battery operates the lazer and the red dot.

Does the green laser have an actual laser beam? Or is it just a green dot?

Not sure about the green laser because mine is the red laser version. However, the red laser on my sight is an actual laser beam that produces a red dot on the target in addition to the red dot sight that produces a dot on the target by looking through the sight. The laser can be used without looking through the sight. Can also use both at once and use one to verify the zero on the other one if you would like to try that.
