Nordic Ware Reusable Bundt Cake Thermometer

So I had one of these that I bought a while back at a fancy shop for way too much. My mom asked how I managed to always bake my cakes perfectly (she exaggerates, they aren't always perfect) even when I have never made the recipe before and I explained that I don't open my oven until the cake passes the sniff test, the visual test, the shake/shimmy test and then when it does, I test it with this. I ended up just giving her mine as a stocking stuffer, thinking I would just get a new one. Then I forgot for a long time. But every time I baked I remembered and finally one day decided to look for it here. Glad I did. Sometimes even when a cake smells done, looks done and doesn't wobble when you jiggle the oven, it still isn't really ready. This is way more accurate and eco friendly than the toothpick test.

All my life, I have used a toothpick to check if cakes, brownies etc were done in the middle. It's not always clear if it's barely underdone or a tad overdone. But that is "how it's done"...until I saw this! I was skeptical. I tried it and it WORKS. Even if the top of the cake isn't quite browned or dry as you think it has to be, this will tell you it IS and give you perfect cakes! No more toothpicks by the oven for me!

This seems to work well, I've tested it on two different loaf cakes baked in Nordic Ware pans. I deducted one star because the color change to red is VERY tiny at the end of the tip - wish it were a little more obvious.

Love this item. It’s my second one purchased one several years ago and wore it out!!

So far I have to say that it's worked well on my full size bundt pan but has been hit and miss for my mini bundt pan. I don't regret getting it but for more dense batters it doesn't seem to show when cooked. The first time things turned out overcooked and dry. I'll pay attention to the density of my batter from now on to help me determine when it will actually help me.
