Good for Beginners
One of the three encyclopedia’s, “Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic” by Scott Cunningham is actually an updated version of the author’s original. This book is arranged similar to the other two.In 14 chapters, the author relays a lot (but not all) of the historical information regarding gems, stones, and metals. After Cunningham’s death, the publishers updated the book with a bit of additional data on newer stones and included an insert showing photographs of some of the more popular stones. Although this was a nice addition, I would recommend that readers interested in gems read additional books, particularly those that focus on identification. In short, this book is an excellent introduction to how various stones and metals were used historically as well as how they’re used in the modern world. Of course, this book is just an introduction to the subject, but it’s a well-written one.

So far so good
I like it, though I don't appreciate the author calling us Magicians. We're witches, even him.

I think I have everything he ever published from back in the day. I am trying to build up the Cunningham library for a friend. His books are just amazing.

Diamond, Silver, Jade and Coral: The Magic of Earthly Delights
What Kindle Readers Want to Know:There is no Active Table of Contents. You can click through chapters but you must hit the next page button to see the chapter. Other than those two issues, the book is formatted well and easy to read. But I deduct one star for the lack of TOC and the high price. What Readers Want to Know:I have owned this book for over 20 years and have loved it. Scott's personal take on the crystals is timeless, touching and tantalizing. His descriptions and histories make you want to own the beautiful stones and metals within this encyclopedia. Perhaps, there is a resurgence in crystal lore thanks in part to the show Steven Universe whose main cast are personified gems. The main section deals with the stones like quartz, agate, mica and emeralds. These articles give you the basics like element, planet, and zodiac sign etc. followed by Scott's explanation of physical and magical properties. What makes this book so special is it's many chapters on stone history and applications like stone spells and stone tarot. Besides the crystals and minerals, there is a chapter on magical metals like Tin, Gold, Antimony and Cooper. My favorite articles are on the stones Pipestone, Lepidolite, Oliivine, and Kunzite. I have bought many (maybe too many) books on crystal lore and magic and none are better than this one!

Excellent Reverence Must Have!
I really enjoy Scott Cunningham books. They are great references to build your knowledge on and this one does not disappoint. I am more embracing what has already been with me and looking for great references. The more new age books have a lot of personal biased along with references. Scott's books cut the BS and offer a great resource for furthering your growth. I'm sorry he's not around anymore. It would have been great to meet him and have a conversation, pick his brain and learn. This book has wonderful information in regards to crystals, gems, metals and not only how to identify them but how to use them. Scott manages to do this without overwhelming you with needless information. I've learned a lot from this book and keep it within easy reach for when I have a question.

Finding a Long Lost Friend On Amazon!
I found a long lost friend on Amazon!Years ago I used the book Crystals, Gems, and Metal Magic (cunningham) as my "Stone Bible". During moves and life's shuffles, it lost its way in my home. Recently I received the "stone calling" (part time mentoring), and soon realized no book I had on hand (or the ones at the local rock shop),could compare with the information and diversity this one offers. Not having alot of cash on hand (and being pleased with Amazon book purchases before), I turned to Amazon and found it right away. It was priced for more than reasonable and the condition was excellant. Many have reviewed this book and are quite inpressed, and more so when I share with them what I payed for it.So far I have never been burnt with purchasing books at Amazon and in the future will go to them first.LaDonna
