The read/write speed on this cable is great and compatible with standard external hard drive connectors. It is just plug and play and even lets you load the drive from your phone for easy back-up of items on your phone.

These cables are very stiff. I wish they were more flexible. They seem durable, but time will tell. I haven’t noticed any connectivity issues, so that’s good.They did not affect transfer speeds on my external HDD. I was hoping to eek out a bit more transfer speed, but it clocks between 120-130 mbps read/write which is slightly faster than the advertised speeds, but within 1-3 mbps of the OEM cable.All in all a good buy, but it won’t help transfer speeds, and it could be a lot more flexible. It was tough to get this repositioned because of how rigid it is.

Just the right length for my external HDD.

A lot of people are unaware that you don't have to have all kinds of adapters if you have a cable with the proper ends to begin with. I'm sure there's some adapter circuitry inside the cable, but at least there's not yet another piece to keep track of.

Please note that the 5 Star Review is to negate my previous 1 star review — but as I returned the item, as I found the packaging — I can’t give it a fair review, and there is a greater issue involved.While the cable indeed didn’t work with my MacBook and while the Amazon branded cable did work, after ordering Amazon’s Micro-D to USB C cable my MacBook kept crashing again.However, the Amazon cable that does work is a Micro-D USB to USB A — which connects to my MacBook USB C port via a dongle.In other words there is a problem with the older style Micro-D to USB C cables — regardless of the manufacturer.I don’t know why the new Seagate drive also has Micro-D and not USB C which seems to becoming the standard, but the USB C ports on my MacBook don’t like to directly connect to a device with Micro-D — but again, using a Micro-D to USB A cable (connected to a dongle that plugs into my USB C port) works fine.***I bought a new External to replace several older and slower backup drives, but my MacBook kept crashing.I thought perhaps the issue was with the older drives not liking the faster speed that this cable can support, but it also caused a crash when connected to the new external drive. At the same time I purchased another length that is Amazon-branded, but that cable works perfectly with the both old and new drives.Perhaps the cable was just part of a bad batch or perhaps it works better with Windows, but I wished I had saved the bag for a return.

I don't know why this combination of USB plugs is so hard to find, but after trying the usual electronic box stores and online sources, I found these on Amazon, where I probably should have looked in the first place. I got the short length in order to neaten up the spaghetti pile of cables behind my computer connecting external hard drives and such. I was a little worried that I ordered them too short, but they were exactly the right length for the set up. They appear to be well made and will hold up over the years, but only time will really tell.
