OPC UA - Unified Architecture: The Everyman's Guide to the Most Important Information Technology in Industrial Automation

Having been thrown into OPC-UA it can be hard to get your bearings. There isn't much introductory material available online for OPC-UA, it's well documented but it was hard to know where to actually start looking.This book presents a brilliant introduction into the very large subject that is OPC-UA, once I finished this book I went from feeling unqualified to comfortable with the specification. Highly recommended if you need a short getting started guide.

As an author around the leading inter-operability standard for industrial data modeling and communications, John Rinaldi has captured the essential elements of OPC UA and presents the material in an easy to read and understand format. Recommended for engineers, manufacturing and process plant operations leadership, and anyone interested in the industrial internet of things.

Good book to Lear the basics of OPC

I found the book to be 50% value and 50% OPC UA propaganda and plugs for John's company.

I have followed John Rinaldi's writings for years as a consultant who has a client in the automation engineering industry. I appreciate John's ability to give detailed information in a format that is easily understandable even for the novice. I recommend his books to professionals in the industry on a regular basis. For anyone who is new to OPC UA or would like to get a concise summary I highly recommend getting this book and encourage you to read the chapter on "10 Things to Know About OPC UA." It is straight forward and to the point. John has great wit and a sense of humor you rarely find when reading information on engineering principles. If you have any kind of personality you will find John's commentary on his personal preferences in life entertaining. For those of you who want details, John goes in depth with specifics that will satisfy any veteran in the engineering field. I give "The Everyman's Guide to OPC UA" my highest recommendation.

I've known John for a few years, and have enjoyed a few of his presentations and past writings. What I like about John is his approach to difficult technical subjects. He understands that we are constrained by time and need to... well, start developing and implementing. The sooner the better.John is really good at quickly giving you the abstract information you need for understanding, and then swiftly moving to the nuts and bolts of development and operations. John is a relief to anyone who has struggled to stay awake through literally thousands of pages of specification, and I can without hesitation recommend his book.

John has another hit on his hands! He really knows how to cut to the chase and provide the information that Everyman (or Woman) working in this field needs to know about OPC UA. As we migrate our own products to OPC UA we will be sure to keep the book close at hand. This well written book on OPC UA is not only for the engineers, it is an excellent resource for sales & marketing to capture an overall understanding of OPC UA and how to apply in business. John also has another must-read book on Modbus, which I am still reading at the time of this posting - 2 great books on different technologies, one great author.

Excellent summary. Obviously when detailed information is required the book is not going to help you anymore. But for beginners in the Techology is awesome material.

The book is mainly a long praise of OPC UA and with very little practical information on how to make use of the protocol

Content is as expected. But the print is uneven through out the pages. Suspected copied book in India.
