Happy I went with OEM verses aftermarket based on my reading.
Water flow:I was having an issue with my shower, not getting hot and having lower water pressure. Upon disassembly I found the pressure equalization valve, not functioning properly basically due to old age. I read other reviews on aftermarket replacement parts and decided to go with OEM based on others, stating there was foot problems with the aftermar. The OEM is basically double what the aftermarket parts cost. But after I read everything, I decided it would probably be a timesaver to just spend the extra money. So far so good. The installation went easy and it works perfectly. I also have read that it is a frequently returned part. After initial unpackaging and trying to install, I can see why. The newer updated valve does not look anything like the one that came out. It does, however, fit, but you must use the new O-rings that come with the kit. Again it has a different look, and a slightly different fit, but that is because it is an updated version of the original. It may not seem like it fits or works, you might have it in upside down like I did.

Drop in replacement for old Kohler shower valve
Met expectations: Drop-in replacement, easy install and it works EXACTLY as it should. It even arrived with the temperature preset right where it should be so I didn't even have to adjust that.Would buy again and highly recommended.

Good, bad and extremely ugly but I won! Fixed the leak out the shower head.
I installed this upgrade for my 1989 shower/tub faucet control around 5 years ago. That on was relatively easy. On the recent one the inner valve could not pull out. I finally resorted to grabbing inside the two holes with pliers and it still wouldn't come loose. I resorted to needle nose pliers to break the front half down at the two holes. I then resorted to the Dremmel with a bit and ground the front half down and away at the two holes in the unit. I took the needle nose pliers and broke the front half of the unit away and pinched and chipped the sides away with the needle nose. I then took the pliers and wiggled land pulled on what was left until it finally broke free. I've always had solf water and there was very little debris in the cavity when I opened it up. You likely won't have this problem but if you do keep in mind that once you distort the inside of the two round holes you can't go back. That item is ruined at that point. The metal retainer around the outside would not fit down on the valve. I used a grinder on the dremmel to make the interior of that retainer slightly larger. It is needed to hold the finish plate on. Another option could be to use oversize finish screws into the plastic on the sides on the valve. I could not use the spacers that the directions indicated I should use when installing the valve. The water leaked out the shower head when the toilet was flushed or water was run in the upstairs sinks. At that point I did remove one of the two sets of the white spacers and still had the problem. I then removed the second set and the problem was solved. After all of that, it was worth it. The valve assembly works like a dream.Good seller, good product!

May spare you from a huge repair job!
While expensive, this kit may save you from a difficult and time-consuming project, or expensive plumbers bill. If you own a typical Kohler bath faucet and have issues with hot water (too much, too little, inconsistent, etc.), it is likely due to a faulty pressure balance valve. If this sounds like it may be your situation, here is my advice. First, check other faucets to ensure the problem is isolated to your bath faucet only. If it is, turn off the water and take apart your existing handle. Check the parts inside to see if they match. The manufacturer's website has a guide to show you what type of pressure balance valve you need. Then, order this kit (it's cheaper than buying the two parts seperately and you likely need both). Overall installation is simple, though I had a bit of trouble getting the interior seals to line up properly. When all was said and done, I spent about 30 minutes on the replacement and my water flow is like new!

I am not Handy around the house and I was able to fix the shower
After four years of use, Our Kohler shower became either very hot or very cold, no variability. On the internet this was a common problem. I used the Kohler website to find the correct part number. I bought from Amazon and saved $40 compared to Home Depot / Lowe's.I was able to successfully replace the old parts with the new parts and the shower works properly.Make sure to turn off your house water supply. I also turned off the water from the water heaters.FYI - our Kohler had a white plastic threaded sleeve that attaches the shower handle - this was somewhat difficult to remove - use a flat head screwdriver to pry the white sleeve off the old valve and re-install on the new valve AFTER the new valve is installed.Happy we did not have to call a plumber and would recommend the part and the ability to do the work ourselves.

Item different than described by seller (substituted with a newer replacement part)
Caution is advised if you are trying to replace the exact pressure valve.I ordered this to replace the Kohler GP500520 (mixer valve) and GP800820 (pressure valve). The set was listed for $20 more for these two parts than the set that contained the GP77759 (newer model pressure valve replacement).
