Works well
Used for thrush per doctor recommendation. Got rid of it within 48 hours! Used 2 applications two days apart. Very happy to have this and extremely happy it worked as fast as it didOne down side is that it stains but I'll take a few stained clothes over my little being uncomfortable any day

I just wanted some available
This was the gentian violet which I wanted on hand . It’s quite to to rid one of certian problems of they arise such as mersa, and fungus . After being bitten by the most teeny tiny spider on my big toe . To my surprise I developed a mersa infection within a few hours . I used hydrogen peroxide on the toe and the tiny hole kept getting deeper and larger over four days . I used peroxide every few hours day and night until the reaction finally stopped . But after that surprising experience I decided to keep some gentian violet on hand for any other time this could happen . I have never seen a tiny tiny tiny spider do such quick dammage to skin which I was lucky to notice since I was painting my toe nails at the time . Gentian violet is an old remedy that works and is making a come back . I am glad I have a bottle on hand .

Awesome Antiseptic That Doesn't Irritate, But May Cause Cancer
A dermatologist sent me home with some of this to try as an effort to help a wicked psuedomonas-infected wound. It definitely seemed to help. I applied it daily. After cleaning the wound with wound wash or Hibiclens, I applied some of this directly to the open wound. I found the best way to use this product is to obtain a small glass or plastic jar that has a lid, and pour some of this item into that container, and use that container for daily use. To avoid pain and spills (I'll get to the staining part later), I would dip a fresh Q-tip directly into that jar of this solution, let it get saturated, then I'd roll the top of the Q-tip across the wound bed. This was a miraculous discovery as far as how to apply lol. Anything else (cotton balls, etc.) would either wind up too messy and being intertwined with my wound, or would hurt from the pressure. It is a great antiseptic product and *does not sting or burn.* Hallelujah. It definitely seemed to fight even this wicked strain of bacteria that eventually got me hospitalized. So it wasn't enough without IV antibiotics, but I could tell a huge improvement in the pain and hot-infrcted feeling on the days I applied this product as compared to the days I did not.As for the bright purple hue. It's real. It will at some point get on something it's not supposed to, but try not to panic. A nurse assistant gave me the brilliant secret to remove it from any surface, even fabrics! Rubbing alcohol. If spilled on a counter or anything, just use some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to remove it and it's like magic. It also got on my bedsheets and a fabric ivory-colored sofa, but by dousing those areas with with rubbing-alcohol-drenched washcloths and then dabbing with dry ones, it got *every bit* out. Hooray!!A potential downside, apparently this product contains some carcinogens, and has actually been banned in certain countries. It helped me in a battle against a terrible painful bacteria, so hopefully it wont have that effect on me.Also, if you are struggling to fight an as-seriously infected wound as I was, I wouldn't recommend relying on this product. I would go straight to the emergency room and hopefully get admitted to the hospital to treat the infection, as I wound up doing much later down the road. At the time I used this product, I didn't understand the seriousness of the actual bacteria that had been found as the culprit in my wound. If I'd been explained that, I'd have gone running to the hospital right off the bat. Also, this product if used for several days or weeks, will semi-permanently stain the skin. It stained my entire wound bed, including the layers of flesh underneath it, which made it difficult for my infectious disease specialist to see what was actually happening, because the dark purple hue colored out everything.Best of luck and health to you! A great product, but not without a few things to consider.

Treated Thrush - It doesn't have to make a huge mess.
I used this to treat Thrush for myself while nursing my baby (baby had the diaper rash which was treated with nystatin). I'm not sure which product ended up taking care of the Thrush ultimately but I do believe that this really helped - I was doing it all... Grapefruit Seed Extract (orally and topically), Diflucan, Probiotics, & washing our clothes daily in hot water. I held off on using the gentian violet for a while because I felt bad about staining my baby's face purple... Turns out I didn't need to worry about that so much; here is what I did...:I used gloves to keep the product from my staining my hands and made sure both the baby and I were wearing old clothes. That said, the only item of clothing that didn't wash clean was my nursing bra and no one sees that anyway. I put a towel down under the baby to keep my nursing pillow clean and I applied petroleum jelly to my baby's cheeks before feeding and wiped her face clean after the feeding with a facial tissue. You'll need to reapply the petroleum jelly if you feed on both sides as it wipes off a bit and you could end up staining baby's face on the second side.. By doing this only her lips stayed purple (it looked like she was wearing lipstick) and it wore off about 24 hours later - just in time for the next application. I would take these same precautions for 2-3 feedings after the initial application of the gentian violet and then I didn't need to worry about it for the rest of the day as there wasn't enough left to make a mess of anything. I preferred to use the product at the last feeding of the day so that I only had to worry about the mess overnight (we were still feeding 2x overnight) while we were at home and I didn't have to worry about it if I needed to go somewhere during the day. I hope this helps someone - if I had known I could keep my baby from having a giant purple face I would have used it sooner.Note that hand sanitizer (I think the alcohol in it) can clean up some of the purple staining if you happen to make a mess with it, but clean it up quickly!! I've read other reviews were people had permanently stained sinks. I used the hand sanitizer to clean up baby's face a bit before I discovered the petroleum jelly trick, and to remove it from the porcelain tile in our kitchen were I dropped a bit (oops) - thankfully it didn't land on the grout!
