New Balance unisex-child 990 V3

I just purchased our third pair of these shoes. My toddler has extremely wide feet and I find that often even wide shoes just aren't quite wide enough - we get velcro overlapping just enough to close, but popping open if too much torque to placed on the closure. That is absolutely never an issue with these shoes. The extra wide shoes will close completely and tightly and they stay closed. We could probably even go down to a W instead of a WW. The shoes provide excellent cushioning and support and the the part the comes up to his ankle in the back doesn't rub. Also, the single closure as opposed to multiple straps really helped when he was just learning to put on his own shoes.He wears these 3-5 days per week and also for his soccer practice and games. Even with the constant wear and tear, these shoes hold up! No sole separation or velcro giving out. These are hands down our favorite shoes for him, even if he votes for a pair that lights up as his favorite.

I bought the EXTRA WIDE for my 22-month-old, based on other reviewers' comments. And the shoe fits great, but I have to pull the strap really hard to get it far enough over to attach onto the velcro. It's as if they made a wider shoe and then used the same strap from the regular version. Huh??? We are going to keep them because we are desperate for a new pair of shoes, but I worry that I'm pulling them so tight that they're uncomfortable and that they won't fit for long cause there's no room for the strap to adjust at all. I may try to get a velcro sticker to extend the area where the strap can attach. (This should absolutely not be necessary for a shoe at this price!!)EDITED: We have now had these shoes for a couple months and the strap must have stretched because they are perfect now and it is not difficult at all to attach them!

I decided to try these new balance shoes for my 4 year old son. One of the requirements would be a light shoe and with hook and loop "velcro" instead of laces. I ordered the same size as his current shoes because they were falling apart because the use and abuse from an active toddler. I also ordered a wider size.. Once I did received them, I compared with the old one and it is a bit larger than expected. This is fine because kids grow fast. Quality is good as I can see. Light and flexible as well. At first, my son did not wanted to wear it. After trying several times, finally he gave in. You know, kids do not like changes. After that day, he wear the shoes every day to daycare and does not try to take them off. My guess is that he realized that the shoes feels good or better than his old one's. He wear them all day without any complains.

These shoes are perfect for my active 4 year old son, he has wide feet and the velco fits him perfectly in this shoe. It is very easy for him to get on an off alone (he will be 4 in a few weeks) and this shoe holds up well. After months of use and lots of washer & dryer time (I wash them about once a month) they still look brand new. We buy new ones when he outgrowns the pair. I have bought several type of NB shoes over the last 4 years and the KV990 model holds up the best for an active child who is hard on shoes. I love that they still come in hook & loop in his size as he does not know how to tie quite yet. The wide fi his wider feet perfectly. You can not go wrong with this shoe. We get gray in the summer and blue or black in the winter.

I picked up this shoe for my daughter based on brand/style/price. The shoe is very stable and she seems to like the fit.The one issue I had is the same as other have commented/complained about. The velcro closure does not go accross the top of the shoe it's just a square on the other side of the shoe which has to be linned up almost perfectly for it not to come undone while she is running around. The price and quality of shoe is good enough for me to keep the shoes however the issue with the velcro closure should be noted.

My son is 2 years old and has pretty wide feet. Regular shoes just weren't cutting it and it was so hard to find the correct size in a wide at the local shoe stores. I searched the internet and found this shoe. Not knowing how this brand of shoe would fit I read all of the reviews. I saw were people were displeased when the shoes arrived....they weren't wide enough and the Velcro would hardly catch and the shoe ran small. Based on those reviews I ordered the size 8 and went for the extra wide just to be safe.When the shoes arrived and when I opened the box they looked they really big. I was surprised and I held them up to another pair of his size 8 shoes and they were definitely bigger/longer. It also would have been fine just getting the wide instead of the extra wide. The width of the actual shoe isn't the problem, it's the Velcro straps that could be longer. I didn't have any problems with my son as he has flat feet and the Velcro attached just fine, but I can see what the complaints are about when it comes to the Velcro not reaching properly.I will know the next time how to order them and I definitely will be ordering more of them in the future! I'm happy that I found these shoes! Great shoe for the price! My son loves them, he can put them on and take them off all by himself. :)

Our 21 month old grandson has extra wide, chubby feet (born with foot abnormality of both feet) and he normally kicks off his regular runners at the first opportunity.However - with these New Balance extra wide runners - he keeps them on for hours or until WE take them off.They are very easy to put on (tongue opens up nice and wide) , and velcro keeps them snug.As soon as he had these on he 'marched' around the house looking down at his feet and when we tell him to go get his shoes, these are the ones he brings back. So - I'm going to assume they must be comfy. They are also lightweight, supportive, flexible, quick to dry and very nice looking. We actually ordered 5 more pairs in ascending 1/2 sizes for him. Very pleased with these runners. Highly recommend them.
