SGT117XE DOD Military Corpoate USB FIPS 201 Approved CAC PIV Smart Card Reader

I found this CAC reader easy to use. The device drivers installed automatically, & it worked immediately without me having to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it to work. I'm not too tech-savvy, so the fact that I plugged it in & it worked right away was a huge plus. I would recommend the brand especially, as I bought a second CAC reader from the same brand that was equally user-friendly & simple.The only downside to this product is its design. It's not exactly a flaw, but I personally am a laptop user, & this particular version is designed for use with a desktop; it doesn't do well with portability since it's designed to sit stationary. However, it is small enough & not terribly cumbersome, so even on the go it was still a worthwhile investment.

The SGT117 is definitely one of the best-looking and user friendly CAC readers that I have used. It's strong and heavy base makes it easy both to insert and to retrieve a card without having to affix the reader to the desk. No problems with the device, and easy to install, especially when switching from an older-model reader. The included CD was not needed, but seems to have all the necessary drivers. Must have for the geeky CAC user.

Do NOT order this brand. Works once or twice, then is ready for the trash. Has caused nothing but frustrations!

This is a great product. I didn't give it a 5-star because my CAC card got locked out because the reader wasn't properly responding to army.mil. So, I had to go all the way to an ID Center to get it unlocked.

I purchased the SGT117XE for testing custom software. The product installed without hassle. The reader also performed as expected.The SGT117XE is one of the better card readers I tested. It has a sturdy base and does not suffer from the lightweight "plastic-y" feel of some of the other readers I tested.

Did not work, Box looked open and not packaged well... If you are military ask for one from the S-4 or try the PX.

The CAC Reader I had before was old and out of date. So I upgraded to this one because my new ID could not be read with the old reader. However, it worked no better then my old Reader. I had the same problem with the old reader. I learned about it later that I only need to update the software and after the update, both worked the same. I could have bought an old model for cheap and it still work like this one. It's also alot bigger and heavier than the old model, but no special benefits for its inconvenience. I used window xp and 7 from the old model reader and it's just as good.

Great solution for military and DoD civillians / contractors the drivers were instantly recognized by Windows 7. Works well and have had no issues using this product with a PIV II compliant CAC with ActiveClient. Reasonably priced and would recommend for anyone who does not want to take their DoD laptop with them everywhere they go just to check email!
