My husband needed a car charger for his laptop while he is waiting for his tractor-trailer to be loaded/unloaded.. He says it works great and he can watch movies when away from home,

I'm a storm chaser and run a laptop computer in the vehicle for long period at a time (all day usually) when chasing. In the past, I've had to use power inverters, and since computers natively run on DC voltage anyway, like a vehicle, it's terribly inefficient to convert that power from DC to AC and back to DC again. With this, it cuts out the middleman so to speak, so now it's just converting down the 12VDC to what the laptop needs. No more inverter needed! Great for the car. Mine has worked pretty well.Now all that said, I started having some problems with it staying connected. I ended up disassembling the plug in and found the wire connections inside to be lacking. It had almost worked the positive wire loose from it's soldered terminal. So I ended up putting a more hefty end on it. Problem solved. Keep in mind, I put these things through a lot more abuse than the average person, so it may end up being a none issue for most people, but for that reason, I knocked off a star.

Arrived on time for my trip and cord was new, complete and served the purpose of a DC connector.

I did work at first but within an hour the transformer and the lighter plug end of the charger got very hot. The lighter plug end got so hot that it deformed in the heat and popped the fuse in my vehicle. Either it was defective or I was not using it for the intended use. I was using the laptop while it was plugged in. It seems like this was only built to charge a turned off laptop and could not safely handle the amps required to charge and run the laptop at the same time. If you are looking to just charge a turned off laptop, this should be just fine.
