Pearl VPX Snare Drum Ivory 14x5.5

This Pearl Vision Series Vx,is a great snare at a great price. it is birch wood and has an ivory wrap on the outside. I haven't taken the head off yet, but I feel certain that the outside is a wrap and not laquered birch wood. I have a set of premier drums in a turqouise blue and the color is warm and pleasant. But I did not buy the top of the line series of the Premier drums, and this series is apparently of less quality woods. Matter of fact,the outer side is a peg board type material, made out of that fiberous material used for peg boards. That is what is laquered. Due to the cheaper quality, as I tightened the head really tight, at some point, the bering edge crumbled and the shell is now worthless. So after looking on Amazon, I saw this ivory snare that I knew would look good with the blue,and it does.Most drummers use different snares from the kit anyway.This is a really good snare and I love it. I also have a set of Pearl drums in my church, so I am not new to Pearl, I love the product.

Not a bad drum. Does not shipped tuned. Would have loved instructions on how to tune it as a new drummer, but youtube is great!
