Utopia bed encasements are the best bang for your money. The encasament does not have any factory smell or weird fabric odor. It is fairly rip resistant, however it is not very thick. I never had rips with regular wear and tear and use of the bed, like changing sheets and such. It does not make noise when one lays on top of it but I use a pad on top of it. All my beds in the house have Utopia encasements, and I have several sizes ranging from twin to king size. This encasement is medium light weight. It has an all around zipper that opens up to 70% of the mattress size. The zipper have a cloth "lock" to the end that ensures a seal. The encasement is made to be used with a mattress protector which goes on top of the encasement as a next layer. You don't have to use a protector. I do. The encasement makes the bed more hygienic and clean by protecting the mattress from dust mites, skin shedding, incidents, and possible pests. If you have allergies this is for you. If you move a lot…this is for you. If you get guests in the house often, overnight….this is for you. If you are OCD about sleeping in a clean bed…..like myself, then this is absolutely for you.

I love this mattress cover. I have been wanting to get a mattress pad for our guest room that was waterproof, comfortable, economical, and easy to put on and stay on. My husband thought we would never be able to put it on the mattress because it encases the entire mattress. The instructions show 2 people standing the mattress up to put it on. I simply lifted the mattress a foot, slipped it on and easily wriggled it right to the top. It was similar to the motion of wriggling up your tights or pantyhose! We haven't had anybody sleep on it yet, but just the ease of putting it on a king size bed with minimal effort was great! I think I will replace my own cover with the same style/brand.

I’m more than pleased buying this product. I actually purchased 4 of them in different sizes for all the mattresses we have. The product absolutely saved my recently purchased Saatva mattress. I couldn’t believe it really worked so well protecting the mattress. My son had a severe stomach in the middle of the night and vomited a WHOLE LOT in the center of the bed. He pretty much empty out the full content of his stomach in the center of the bed and there was a lot of liquid included. I thought for sure his vomit penetrated the mattress protector but no. The mattress was completely dried and protected. Great product.

Well, here is to hoping it is waterproof. I didnt think to try it out before putting in on the mattress. I usually have great exerience with Utopia products, so I just assumed this would be fine given my trust in the brand. However, only as I go to review do I see some reviews about it not being waterproof. I sorted the reviews by "all reviews" and "most recent", and saw that the negatives of that nature go further back in time. We will see. AND I WILL UPDATE if I experience anything worth sharing.Nice design. Zippered styles can be tricky to put on, but if you take a good look at it, decide which corner to start in, then it should all go swimmingly. Good durable zipper closes into a hide a way pocket.Depending on size of your mattress, this may be airy or it may be tight. Have to make sure to look at the measurements of this item, and to know what mattress thickness it can accommodate. I knew mine would be extra airy because I was buying it for a 2.5" mattress. I pushed the air out as best I could before finishing zipping.I bought the FULL XL for use on my Japanese floor mattress. It isn't thick like a regular mattress, but I wanted the added protection of a waterproof protector. I wanted a zippered style since this mattress gets moved around a bit. I then put a zippered sheet on top. I had been using this on the floor and tucking away under a day bed when not in use, but more recently I decided to put it on top of the twin sized mattress that is on the day bed. My full sized Japanese futon is flexible enough to angle up the back of the day bed, providing a more couch like appearance.I chose to put a waterproof mattress protector on it because my dogs like to sleep on it and I have one cat who will occasionally rage pee on something. I had tossed out our couch because she found the one spot that didnt have a waterproof pad on it. So then I decided instead of buying a new couch, I would buy a daybed frame and just put a mattress I already had and add in a bunch of toss pillows. I had planned to buy a waterproof protector for the twin mattress, but once i decided to put my Japanese mattress on top of the twin mattress, I just havent yet. I probably still should.

It was a little weird getting it on at first, but once you realize that you basically have to put it on like a cover, make sure the mattress is going inside of the cover and then having to pull it from underneath the mattress I think is the hardest part once you get it on there you don’t ever need to take it off is very strong And keeps my mattress protector from spills from insects from everything. Definitely recommended 10 out of 10.

I love these things. I have bought 4 of them over the last 2 years. I am able to put them on myself, but I’m a pretty industrious 😊 If you have a queen mattress or smaller and can lift it slightly, you should be able to do it solo too. Just don’t try dragging the cover with the full weight of the mattress on it. It will tear. Honestly, most covers will. Lift first, then slide it on. I will buy them again for sure.

Ordered new mattresses for my kids, and wanted to protect that investment against spills and stains. What’s nice about these mattress protectors is that they are zippered, so they cover the entire mattress and stay on. Essentially, mattress fits inside the cover. The material seems thick and like a good quality without being loud. It also doesn't crinkle loudly when you sit on the bed the way some mattress protectors can. Would recommend them.
