My cats are healthy and happy 😊
I did so much research for my new kittens who had just gotten spade and nuetterd at the center so I wanted them to get the best that they can eat to recover and stay healthy and happy. I'm relieved that this food is 92% just beef which is wonderful because cats need meat since they're carnivores. The other 8% is chickpeas, mussels minerals like taurine. The ingedient list is full of beef and only beef which includes the liver, kidneys, tripe, and bone( safely it's been grinded up so they will not choke) so its not like we won't know protein they used per batch. Nope i'll always be certain its beef. It also includes green lip mussels which is fantastic for cats because it provides omega 3s and helps with their joints. Another plus in my book is that all this comes from new Zealand so I'm in 100% trust that the products from ziwi are safe and fresh for my lovely cats. Definitely value for your money you get 6.5 oz which is another half ounce most competitors take away. So the size works even better because if you have 2 cats it's easier to distribute the food in half with just 1 can rather than opening multiple small cans. Even if you just got 1(although they should have a buddy if possible) you just need to open 1 can per day for them since typically it 6oz of food per day per a avg size cat along with their activity lvls. Which brings me to how much more energy my cats have with this meal compared to others. Wow my cats are always ready to play and have an abundance of energy to go on walks and run around. Also i always here other say how much their cats sheds and as long as i have them in this range of diet they dont shed like crazy just normal levels so great nutrition for them means less shedding. I can't thank ziwi enough for having this line 👌🏻 10/10. So if you have the funds please give your cat the best that they can receive and your reward will be a happy feline that is happy to be your companion 😊

Hate the price, love how good it is for my IBD cats with food allergies.
I can only imagine that New Zealanders pay half the price for this food (if that!), which is just another reason on a very long list of reasons I wish could move to Middle Earth. But I digress. This used to be the sole food that was tolerable to an IBD cat I had years ago. Back then the bone shards were scary large and I would pick them out, supplementing egg shell powder for the lost calcium source. No pet owner wants to go through that hassle, especially for the price, so I'm relieved to see that the pieces of bone are now small enough to be digested easily. Yes, they're supposed to be there. Why, you might ask. Because Ziwi Peak is one of the only cat food manufacturers that mimics a cat's natural diet via type of ingredients and ratios. You'd have to buy food from a supplier that specializes in raw food diets with the appropriate muscle meat/organ/bone ratio to get a better approximation of the ideal prey diet. House cats have the same GI system as tigers or lions, they haven't evolved the way dogs have. The closer you can get to a natural diet, the healthier they should be.So, anyway, I ended up with two more IBD cats with various food allergies and embarked on a whirlwind cat food adventure in the hopes of finding something that wouldn't cause any issues. Ziwi Peak was tried, cats wouldn't touch it, we moved on to other novel protein-based foods and, still, the vomiting continued. We tried the commercial raw foods in novel protein sources and, still, the vomiting continued. We got a prescription for a hypoallergenic commercial food and it was ok. Vomiting was limited, but the cats needed mega doses of probiotics/prebiotics and egg yolk powder to keep hairballs under control. Eventually the cats began vomiting up the prescription food and I found out that cross-contamination is a pretty big problem in the pet food industry. I started to wonder if the problem wasn't the protein source so much as *where* the food was manufactured. This is when I decided that we'd give Ziwi Peak another shot, but use it exclusively. The cats were less than thrilled with the abrupt change in diet, especially since the healthier food tends to not be as appetizing as the less nutritious chicken and fish in gravy type foods (I mean, come on. That's like saying, "Here, would you prefer this pizza for dinner or a grilled chicken breast and steamed vegetables?" to a person.) You've got to be sneaky with them when switching to a healthier diet. Mine go bonkers for freeze-dried duck liver treats and I decided to use this as an incentive to eat the Ziwi Peak by crushing the treats into a fine powder and sprinkling it over the food. I only had to do this for two days before they started digging into the the Ziwi Peak sans the extra motivation. The new diet hasn't been a miracle cure for my cat with severe IBD, though her condition has improved significantly. It's been far more successful for my cat with moderate IBD. I've been able to cut back on supplements and I'm seeing an all-around boost to their general health. I add a little water to the food and can tell they're no longer dehydrated since the water bowl is rarely touched. They used to drain it, plus 1/4 of another bowl, by the end of the day when they were mostly eating dry prescription food. That's not a good sign. Cats don't have a very strong thirst drive to begin with and chronic dehydration is a common cause of kidney problems later in life. If you change nothing else about their diet, please get your cats off of dry food if you can. It's the worst thing you can feed them.I guess I'll have to keep paying these ridiculous prices for food since it's the only thing that's made a noticeable difference in their health. I'm hoping to use it as a stepping stone to a non-commerical raw food diet. A natural diet in raw form is easiest on their digestion. It's a daunting prospect, but I think we're up for another cat food adventure.

Great ingredients!
My cats absolutely loved trying this out, even my picky cat. I love the ingredients, quality, and smell. It gives me peace of mind they are eating good food. I wish it was more affordable but I will definitely look out for deals.

7 mm bones in food injured my cat
I have fed my cat Ziwi Peak for years; recently 7 mm bones in the food injured my cat. After eating, my cat vomited up his food which surprised me because this had never happened before. As I was cleaning up the vomit, I noticed small pieces of bone in the food. I pulled out 6 small bones, two of which were 7 mm long and 4 of which were 2-5 mm long.My cat stopped eating and drinking after that so I took him to a Pet Emergency Clinic . The vets at the clinic told me that the bones were too large to be in cat food, and that the bones had caused injury to my cat's digestive system. The vets were concerned that a bacterial infection could occur due to the injured tissue, and my cat started antibiotics. It has been 4 days now, and my cat is still barely eating or drinking. I knew that Ziwi Peak includes ground bone in the food, but these pieces are too large. I am wondering if there have been changes made in the production of the food since Ziwi Peak was sold to a China based private equity firm in late 2021.

Quality ingredients, not appreciated by my cats but they're picky
My cats didn't like it (but I foster kittens, so there's always a mouth for cat food my cats don't like) but it at least deserves 4 stars for quality ingredients.
