Sleeping much better now and now I know what to do if any problems
I found this book to be very helpful and it has helped me learn to sleep again. Once you are back into sleeping you can vary the rules but be strict to start with and it took me about 2 weeks but then a few more weeks to reinforce it with a couple of lapses that were usually my fault (I had a cup of coffee one day that did not help etc). Key things relax, be happy, forgive yourself and the world and that helps. But generally do not think just breath and do not try to do anything just let your mind rest and be empty (quite easy for me) and you just drift off. It will take a while to start with but that is partly because you need to forgive yourself for not relaxing rather than worrying about it. I realised I lay down and was giving up almost instantly so actually persevere and relax and you find you do drift off. Also a crucial thing for me is having a routine using light, temperature and reading paper books not Kindle before sleeping and with a routine and a regular bed time was initially essential (not sleeping during the day) all helped. Give your mind and body time to learn the habbit of sleep again, what will work in two weeks time will not work very well on the first night. The one big thing is the 5.5 hours thing, namely you only NEED 5.5 hours sleep. Knowing that was a revelation as at 1.30am I can still get 5.5 hours sleep so all is fine. An understanding of snoozing and aiming for less sleep ironically meant I got more than 5.5 hours sleep because I thought that is all I needed I relaxed so I coped better if I woke up. Basically less means more and you have the power to change what you do but useful hints are very helpful. I have never used sleeping tablets in my life but I do use herbal sleeping aids from the chemist and they do help as well although I now think that is largely psychological rather than essential but it helps so I use them. I can now go on holiday and visit friends as I was worried about that as I thought I could not sleep if I did not have a routine but that is relaxing and I find the rules can be applied quite leniently now as it is mostly psychological although I think I am still applying the key rules generally with my sleeping aids as a comfort blanket if needed.

Insomnia self-help tips.
This book was helpful to me although it's content was typically CBTi/ Mndfulness/ Buddhist based so there was nothing fundamentally new.The writer's assertion that the record for sleeplessness was for fifteen days after which the record holder slept for fifteen hours and was fully renewed, was also helpful.

This Actually Works
Hi great, sensible and practical advice from a former 15 year chronic insomniac. Well recommended but please note that the book should be read from start to finish without skipping or dipping into chapters. If you follow each stage as set out I am sure this book will relieve your symptoms and have you on the road to recovery in no time. Sweet dreams.

Three Stars
Good overview of what one should know about sleep. Maybe too focused on sleeping pills addiction for my taste.

Fantastic book... IT WORKS
I bought this book having tried a LOT of other things to "fix" my insomnia. It was the best thing I ever did. I didn't even follow the program, just reading the book, getting a better understanding of my "problem" and occasionally using one of the techniques means that I am now "cured". I am sure the program would work, I just didn't need to... This book turned my sleeping issues around, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's ever laid awake at night thinking "Oh no, I haven't slept yet, I can't believe I've got to get up in X hours and tomorrow's going to be totally miserable". Try it. At the very worst you waste a few quid, at the best, you will literally say goodnight to insomnia!!!!!

A huge help
I suffer with insomnia, and I found this book an extremely good help to try and put things in proportion to the problem. It's cheap as chips, and I found it helped me considerably. We are all different, but if you do suffer from insomnia I would suggest you give it a go

Very quick delivery, ordered on Monday late evening of Christmas week and was delivered on Wednesday morning. Interesting read with some good tips. The books message seems to be keep off the tablets and try a CBT course.

all good common sense
This book is quite helpful in understanding what causes insomnia and how to deal with it. It was largely stuff I had read before and mostly boils down to common sense in the end. Still battling insomnia so it didn't act as a quick fix but I have altered some of my beliefs about insomnia and think that further down the lin eit can improve. A book to give you hope maybe..
