Are these pedals compatible with shimano spd cleats?

yes these mountain bike pedals are compatible with shimano spd sm-sh51 (black) cleats.

I find it extremely difficult to get clipped in. One they do clip they work well. Is there something I can do to make it easier to clip in?

Your clip springs might be set too tightly. There is a screw connected to the spring (it is only on one side - don't go loosening any of the symmetrical screws...) that you can try turning to the left a few times. That should make it easier to clip in/out. Other than that, it is really only a matter of practice. You should be able to get a noticeable improvement! Good luck!

What is the difference between these mountain bike pedals and Shimano m520 pedals?

Can i use regular sneakers with these pedals or just spd ready shoes
